The way the plays are currently tagged isn't always matching the way they are actually being used. People are using Short Pass Blitzes for Outside Run defense, Short Pass defense to stop long passes, long pass defense to stop screens, etc.

Allow us to actually tag the plays the way we intend on using them. This will allow us to easily sync up our formations and make the tactics page much easier to fill out. The way the plays are currently tagged should be the default setting. This will allow those who like it the way it is just to keep doing what they are doing. A drop down box should be included on each play that allows us to change the tag to Short Pass, Medium Pass, Long Pass, Inside Run, or Outside Run. Man, Zone, Blitz tags should remain unchanged.

Not to be a cynic or anything but I am just kinda getting over this shebang at this point....it's been the easiest solution since season 1 when everyone was confused as fuck and it still is.

Why don't you make a post in the help forum or PM me or something. Don't have time to run a team, but can give you advice.

or just change the playbooks themselves. instead of basing playbook exclusively on the number of wide receivers, expand it.

remove the requirement for two plays per book since there will now be so many more playbooks in and since that is a requirement that seems simple to circumvent anyway since I see people run the same blitzes every play anyway by I assume using zone percents and blitz percents to get around it.

other way to do it is just to change the playbooks to have sub sections which would probably be a lot easier.

"Pass Short Playbook"
2wr section
3wr section
4wr section
5wr section
2te section
Goal line section

"Pass Medium Playbook"
2wr section
3wr section
4wr section
5wr section
2te section
Goal line section

then Pass Long. Then Run Inside. Then run outside.

This would now completely ignore the coded tags on plays and allow a person making their own playbook to 'tag' based on which section the play is in.

I like the idea behind what you're suggesting here but it begins to move the game further from the "casual" intention.

Agreed.

The problem right now is complexity vs time. It's relatively easy to make the D tactics less complex - the problem is, as Air noted on air raid's solution, that it then takes significantly more time to create defensive tactics each time. I'm not sure that the suggestion is a worthwhile trade-off. I do think something needs to be done though to help alleviate this issue.

One thing I think would be really helpful is a D-tester. You should be able to set certain D tactics / playbook - pick a play (i.e. 2WR, 3WR, etc.) and a down/distance and then it should pop out percentages of how often each of your D plays would be called in such a situation.

The defensive system is not good. It is very hard to pick up. However this may be a case of be careful what we wish for.
