http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historiography#The_history_of_written_history

There is a word for documenting the history of history.

If only there were a word for how we document the history of historiography...

For some reason I'm getting flashbacks of Integral Calculus and the first time I ever failed a class in University.

So went to my favorite restaurant last night https://plus.google.com/114036224248508758843/about?gl=us&hl=en and tried their dragon skewers special appetizer. Habaneros stuff with blue cheese and scalions wrapped in smoked bacon. Delicious and incredibly spicy. The only downside was this morning my ass burned like its never burned before. Just straight fire.

Every single one of 7 city school districts are closed, the 3 county school districts are closed, banks, military bases, and churches are closed, the community colleges are closed or delayed, my university (which has people coming in from more than 20 miles away in all directions) is open.

How do they get away with it? By saying "We are open today but it is up to the discretion of the student whether or not to attend class" which conflicts with their homework and lab policy of "if you miss, it's a zero". It's -4 degrees right now, the roads are icy, the high for the day is 7, and the all time lowest high in the history of the city is 6.

So "We're open but you totally don't have to brave the treacherous conditions to come. But if you don't come, you get a zero"

Getting an ever so sweet taste of a thing called life.

I've known companies to not shut down for the day when there's an inch of ice on everything, and you can't even get to your car.

Companies are shutting down though. And not everyone can park on campus or by their classes, people have to park pretty far and walk to class, with windchills in the -5 to -10 range. I just hate that they say 'you can totally not come, but if you do decide that we made a bad choice and stayed open with dangerous conditions, you get a zero'

Well, your employer will do the same thing.

You won't get paid if you can't get there, and it will count against you.

Life sucks.

what percentage of students are commuters as opposed to live on campus?
when I was at a school that did not have a large commuter population, they literally never shut down classes, but when I was at a school with a large commuter pop, classes were canceled pretty much any time the local public school was

and keep in mind that might be technical university policy, but profs may very well see things differently

Official enrollment is 9,798, with 1,127 beds in the dorms. So 88.5% of students commute. Data from the website "which added 192 freshmen beds to the existing 632 in Summit. Another 303 residential on-campus beds are in Alpine Village." Those are all the dorms and apartments combined.
We cancelled for much, much less last year, it's almost like they're making up for their unnecessary cancellation by making everyone come

There's also the question of "how is the weather there?"

If you're commuting a decent distance, you might be completely snowed in while the schools area just has some light dusting or whatever.

Living in Ohio, the only time businesses and factories shut down was when it was a "level 3" where it was literally illegal to drive...and only if that level 3 was in the area of the business.

Was the same with my college, but I managed to send my professors an email and ask for the work, and they usually sent me crap to do.

It's on top of hill. It's a steep climb on one side and a less steep climb, but over a frozen bridge, on the other. There's 3" of snow on campus, 3ish down here (it's been drifting so Idk exactly)
