Across all the forecasts, we were supposed to see 1-14 inches of snow. 1-4" by the local CBS affiliate, 9-14" by the Weather Channel, and 4-8" by multiple other stations. With that ridiculously large of a berth, they were all still wrong. We have no snow or frost anywhere.

Try the orange flavored 5 hour energy.

But in truth, they're all bad for you, so you're better off without them.

that's the other kicker. even if it tasted good, they are so godawfully shitty for you.
I have my students do a paper every semester on 'The Chemistry of _______', they choose their topic. Every semester someone does energy drinks, and every single time, after they have looked into what is actually in them, they swear them off

what makes an energy drink bad for you? other than the massive amounts of sugar. it cant be much worse than drinking 3-4 cups of coffee with sugar and creamer every morning, right?

coffee has more caffeine per ounce than energy drinks, btw (other than the concentrated stuff like 5 hour energy)

there are other stimulants in there, as well, depending on the drink.

the caffeine and sugar loads are the primary concern, though. they might contain (on average) less caffeine per ounce than coffee, but the average serving is about twice that of coffee. then way they are consumed has been an issue, too, in that they are (typically) gulped rather than sipped over a longer time, like coffee is.

while this

is probably accurate (but picture A LOT of sugar in that coffee), you're usually getting that dose within just a few minutes, as opposed to (again, typically) over the course of an hour or so with coffee. this can lead to an acute overdose, which has potential to be bad if you have an undiagnosed heart condition. ER docs have seen these types of issues in people of all ages. it's like anything else, really, not super bad if you drink them in moderation and responsibly, but these drinks are typically marketed towards kids, who aren't the most responsible bunch

a "tall" starbucks coffee (the smallest they advertise, but i think they might have one smaller) is 12 ounces and has 260 mg of caffeine. a normal red bull is 8 ounces and 80 mg caffeine. a normal monster is 16 ounces and has 160 mg caffeine. from what i've seen, most energy drinks have ~80mg/ 8 ounces. i personally drink at most one per day over a period of about 30 minutes. i'd say the average coffee drinker is getting a higher dose than me

granted, starbucks probably doesn't compare well to home-brewed coffee.
