Without knowing ELO#s..it makes it tough.

How about #1 overall team is reset to 1200
#2 season ending team is reset to 1199
#3 1198
etc.

Like pushing a stack of books together - reducing the gaps considerably --- and then starting fresh (previous seasons don't matter).

I think you get roughly the same result with either of those plans. You tiers are going to be lumped together so the worst Vet team is still ranked ahead of the best Pro team, etc. For a team like GA this is the only way they would sniff the top 5 in their first season in Vet, not really seeing how it would screw them at all.

Well - it actually moves them backward...and moves the terrible, gutted, CPU vet teams back ahead of pro team - removing the amount they've dropped.

How high GA finishes in the global ladder is pointless, only their tier. You don't get a trophy for finishing #26 overall, lumping them together at the start at the season puts everyone on equal terms and ensures you get Inter-tier match-ups. This is a much better indicator of who the best team in the tier is than our current system of whoever gets teh luckiest match-ups. A team like the Flying Spaghetti Monsters has the best record in Pro including a win over GA, yet is 4th. They most likely would be #1 in Pro right now if they would have started the season lumped together.

I'm all for equalizing it.

But with your method - you can (in theory) move a Journeyman team back in the global ladder as they enter PRO - further back than they deserved. They then have to beat the same crappy Vet teams that they beat the season before in Pro to get back to their spot.

I understand what you're saying - I just don't like that as much.

I'd rather remove the gaps...squish everyone in based on the season ending global ladder. That way it still has some slight carry over (starting rank) from previous ladder seasons....but doesn't shuffle a bunch of crap teams up above good teams at the start of every season.

I'd rank it on global ladder.

#1 becomes 1200 elo
#100 becomes 1100 elo
#200 becomes 1000 elo
#300 becomes 900 elo

That should naturally keep top tier teams within striking distance...without automatically rewarding total crap teams.

The whole key to the reset is that the ladder will be dramatically more volatile (which I'm for). So sure - you could end up with pro teams at #26, 34, 38, 43, 47, 52, etc... but there will be tons of turnover.

I get it, but a lot of users want to see inter-tier match-ups over playing bad teams from a tier or 2 above. If we were lucky enough to get something like this set up, then for the most part the Global ladder is dead. It's only point in the game at this point is because ELO is never reset.

If we flattened the tier elo each offseason, how Ground Assault does next season would be entirely dependent on how we do in games played next season.

If Ground Assault was the best team in the game, and won 27+ games or somesuch, we'd probably finish around #1 by the end of the season. In the current setup, we could go 30-0 and probably still not get into the top 5.

So yeah, it'll help the crappy teams at the start of the season by catching them up... but maybe they made roster changes and really will be competitive. I think of teams like TT's this season that probably should be higher than they are after making some improvements. Either way, they'll still finish towards the bottom of the tier by the end of the season as they get romped.

Each season is it's own animal. That we let previous seasons have sooooooo much sway on current season rankings is the flaw with the current system. Most teams change in significant ways from season 2 season, and even if their roster/tactics remain static, there's still changes to the game made by Corndog that can impact how well ranked a team is each season.

Reset the K Value and give us 30 offensive and defensive plays next season. Time to shake shit up and get people excited about this fuckin game.

I agree...

Vet: 1200
Pro: 1100
...

No idea how elo works, but just change the base values and its fine. If teams cry that their hard earned lead is gone, give them a tissue. We need a more dynamic thing. That would also lead to some teams trying to regain strength by new coaches and players rather than gutting because they can see their improvement directly

A lot of things need to be made right before we lose everybody. Maybe in a month or so, when a lot of the bugs are worked out and we have custom fields, send out an email blast and give out 500 free flex points to everybody just to try to bring some of these guys back.

I'm not going anywhere.

How are we supposed to take your opinion seriously when you've never been in close proximity to the XX chromosome?

I'll admit that I thought the global ladder was fine before and now have changed my mind. I was wrong...
