Hedgehog’s Power Rankings – Week Nineteen(Rd 3. – Final – Playoff Edition)

Introduction

It’s a battle of the #2 seeds for this season’s Canada A6 League Championship. The Spartans edged out a last-minute victory, handing the Queen City Black Cats a heartbreaker to win the Eastern Conference Championship. The Vindicators – a team that has never had to come back for a win in the playoffs - got the early lead on the Beavers and never let them catch up. You’ve got two teams here that can run and pass the ball equally well. But the one common denominator I’ve noticed with these two teams has been solid defense: both teams are, if not amongst, the conference leaders in various defensive categories. I’m partial to the Eastern Conference here so I’m rooting for the Sudbury Spartans. Good luck to both of your teams in Canada AA #3. Hopefully, my team (the QC Black Cats will join you guys in Season 6).

This will be the final power rankings from me this season. I will be back with these rankings starting Season 5, Week 4.

Round Three - Playoff Power Rankings

The Championship Contenders

1.-y – Sudbury Spartans – (14-2)
-The last meeting between their former opponents the Spartans lost by a margin of three; 17-20 against. They turned it around against the Queen City Black Cats in a down-to-the-wire victory 20-to-17; their game-winning touchdown coming in the very last second. The Spartans defense won this game for them; forcing the Black Cats to cough up the ball four times and picking up three of those. And it was a fumble recovery that ultimately led to their game winning TD. The Spartans enter the championship game with the edge in points allowed and passing yards allowed. And ball carriers watch out: they come into this with the most forced fumbles inflicted and fumble recoveries.

2. – Vancouver Vindicators – (9-7)
-The Vindicators cut off the Beaver’s Cinderella run and emerge as the Western Conference Champions. In their game against the Saskatchewan Beavers, they limited the Beaver rushing attack to just 83 yards, forcing their opponent to throw it up more – not the Beavers’ game. The Vindicators scored points on effective rushing and passing attacks, completing 22 out of 32 passes including a 2nd quarter 62 yard touchdown. They go into the league championship with the better rush defense (least number of yards run against and only one rushing TD scored against) and a higher scoring offense than the Spartans. They’ve also hurried the QB more; just about four times as much as their Eastern counterpart – the Spartans – accomplished.

Is my morale victory allowed seeing we were able to beat the Western Conference Champs?
