Since the regular season is now over, and some teams did not really gameplan for the last week of the regular season, I will only rank the top 16 teams. With that said, I will also include predictions for the playoff games as commentary.
Team Name/Record/Prev Week
1) Saskatchewan Sasquatches 16-0 1
Upcoming game against 8'th seeded Beavers probably won't be close this time around either. The Sasquatches don't really have any holes. Haven't scored less than 26 points in a game all season.
Win 41-10 vs #15 Beavers
2) Sudbury Spartans 14-2 2
The Spartans have an easy rematch against the Red Deer, who they blew out just a few weeks ago. Expect more of the same this time around.
Win 45-3 vs #14 Red Deer
3) St. John's Salty Dogs 12-4 4
Due to a tough start, St. Johns doesn't get a home game. Although that doesn't necessarily hurt their playoff chances, it does hurt their pocketbook, but they seem to have plenty of money stashed away. Don't expect their game against Nebraska to play out the same as it did in week 4, as both teams have changed a lot. Despite being the lower seed, I'd say St. Johns is the favorite in this game.
Win 35-28 at #9 Nebraska
4) Queen City Black Cats 14-2 5
A team that once looked Sasquatches'ish (no holes) showed a few during the regular season with two losses. However, they still have the #1 seed and with the largest stadium in the East, they have the most to gain financially by advancing far in the playoffs. They killed Montreal in the regular season, and experts have no reason to think the same won't happen tonight in the rematch.
Win 49-0 vs #16 Montreal
5) Halifax Hashishim 13-3 3
Although they have a home playoff game, I don't think this is the matchup they were hoping for. Cheyenne beat them in the regular season 30-17, and the Hashishim looks a bit shaky after last weeks loss to the Warriors. This game is a toss up.
Win vs # 10 Cheyenne 28-24
6) Hillsburgh Hillbillies 13-3 6
They've proved they are a top tier team with a win over Cheyenne last week. Now they get the Thunder, a very tough team that will give them a run for their money. Expect them to pull out a tough game this week and advance in the playoffs.
Win vs #12 Thunder 24-21
7) Vancouver Vindicators 13-3 7
They do go into the playoffs with the #2 seed in the West, but I'd be very interested to see them in a rematch vs #3 Hillsburgh. A lot has changed since their week one matchup. Their game will more depend on which Warriors show up tonight...their opponent can be either incredibly good or terribly bad.
Win vs #13 Winnipeg 35-21
8) Vinland Vikings 12-4 9
Drew the toughest matchup in the West against Manitoba. They won in the regular season 45-38 and I expect this one to be another close game.
Win vs #11 Manitoba 38-35
9) Nebraska Husker Maniacs 12-4 10
They did get homefield advantage, but I don't think that will be enough to push them over the top this week.
Loss vs #3 St. Johns 28-35
10) Cheyenne Mountain Air Force 12-4 8
They've got a good shot at advancing against the Hashishim, but my gut still tells me Halifax will pull it out.
Loss vs #5 Halifax 24-28
11) Manitoba Icemen 11-5 11
The #5 team was just a small notch below the top four in the West, and that means they go home early.
Loss vs #8 Vinland 35-38
12) Calgary Thunder 10-6 12
I like the way this team plays, but they just don't quite have enough to get them over the top.
Loss vs #6 Hillsburgh 21-24
13) Winnipeg Warriors 9-7 13
I think the bad Warriors are going to show up tonight.
Loss vs #7 Vancouver 21-35
14) Red Deer Blue Elk 10-6 14
They've had a tough season, but at least they'll get an extra $100k for making the playoffs...although that's little consolation for going home early.
Loss vs #2 Sudbury 3-45
15) Saskatchewan Beavers 9-7 15
The losing streak starts again.
Loss vs #1 Sasquatches 10-41
16) Montreal Canadiens 9-7 16
This team only made it to the playoffs because the rest of the East teams weren't good. They'll be one and done.
Loss vs #4 QC 0-49
