Ok, so I don't want to step on the virtual toes of allenc's statistical analayis and top secret equations, but I figured..."OMG THIS IS THE PLAYOFFS" so I went ahead and made some of my own predictions. I'm sure you'll all agree with what I'm about to say here.
Also, I had all of this shit typed up and accidentally refreshed and somehow lost it all. And I was so witty the first time through. Sigh.
Anyways...
Alpha
#1 Sparta -vs- #8 Liverpool
Sparta has been the power in Alpha all season, running a somewhat experimental offense full of Centers and OTs at the TE spot. Fueled by a 3 headed RB approach, defenses couldn't stop Bubble Wand and gang even when they knew what was coming. A stingy defense certainly helped to give the RBs time to get started. Liverpool, meanwhile, has stumbled through Alpha, beating all of the pretenders and beating only one playoff team, Krakow. They'll need to seriously right the ship in order to defeat the #1 rated team in perhaps all of EE#5, and I think that's too tall of an order this soon. 42-7 Sparta
#2 Chernobyl -vs- #7 Dark Knights
Chernobyl limped out of the gate to start the season and their initial loss was only exacerbated by BribeGate, the media frenzy that ensued when it was discovered that Willy Catchalot took $25 to drop the game winning TD. Since that time, only a clever Ryebread has managed to put a L on the Disaster, and they have rolled through to the playoffs, hoping to make a mark. The Dark Knights have been a good team all season, but terribly erratic, losing games that they shouldn't have. Gary Hogeboom, Lobster Claw, and the gang will look to get things flowing early against Chernobyl, but Vince Might-Fork-Them-Up and dash their playoff hopes. 28-20 Disaster
#4 Romania -vs- #5 Krakow
Romania has been a powerhouse all season, and now, due to an unfortunate loss to the Dark Knights during a tough 3 game stretch, they end up with possibly the toughest round 1 opponent. Romania might need a balanced attack to counter the defense of Krakow. The Kraks, on the other hand, started the season unsure of themselves, dropping half of their first 6 games. Later in the season Krakow realized they actually were a team to be feared and started to earn the respect that they now have. Knowhson (is this supposed to be Knowshon?) and Gator Swamp will try to will the Kraks to an upset victory...and I think they just might. 34-31 Kraks
#3 Rotterdamn -vs- #6 East Berlin
Rotterdam has been the quiet contender all season, silently picking apart bottom dwellers and playoff hopefuls alike. After dropping 2 of 3 games mid-season, some (ok...just me) wondered if they were truly a top team in Alpha at all, but then the Rampage quickly reminded us with an upset win over Sparta and has since cruised right in to claim the playoff spot that they deserve. Stat Styles has lit up secondaries all season, and will be a tough opponent over the next few games. Meanwhile, Drizzt's East Berlin squad will not go gentle, and Stark Barragan will try to keep the Rampage's on the sideline where they belong. Will East Berlin be able to get past the front 7 of the Rampage? 38-27 Rampage
Zeta
#1 Hungary Hungry...err..Brown Bay Packers -vs- #8 Warsaw Sabotage
Right. Brown Bay. A team that us in Alpha haven't heard a lot about this season, silently going 10-0 and overshadowed by the ominous and absolutely starving Hippos. Brown Bay will look to lean on it's defense while any guy in a brown uniform runs behind their o-line to a wonderful day on the ground. The Sabotage, meanwhile, have shown improvement during the season, but find themselves a victim at the #8 seed. 42-7 Brown Bay
#4 Belgrade Bears -vs- #5 Athens Gods
Much like any #4/#5 matchup, this one will be tricky. The Bears are a solid club, losing only to the top teams in Zeta. The Gods meanwhile, well, they should have lost to everybody apparently...but they don't. LP will try to power over the Gods as he did during their last meeting, but will Nietzsche allow this to happen? I've already picked one 4/5 upset...why not make it two? 17-10 Gods
#2 Spanish Inquisition -vs- #7 Barcelona Chupacabras
Well, I certainly didn't expect this. Two of the loudest mouths in EE#5 square off in what should be a close fight for advancement. The Inquisition have shown that they are looking for a championship sooner rather than later, and enter the playoffs on a 12 game streak. Meanwhile, the Chupacabras have lost to all of the major playoff teams that they've face. I don't see them stepping over Johnny Lee in this one. 34-28 Inquisition
#3 Hungary Hungry Hippos -vs- #6 River City Ransom
Ah, the Hippos. Really the most feared team in the league until just recently, when they not only showed that they are vulnerable like the rest of us, but then went and lost a second game, showing that there IS hope for us in Alpha. Regardless, the playoffs are here and the Hippos are ready to show that you only need to win in the playoffs. River City does have a chance in this one, and could certainly use a timely KR TD or perhaps an extra fumble, but I think the Hippos can run away with this in a hurry. 35-14 Hippos
