Alright guys, Alphas involvement on this forum has been lax to say the least. I will try to do this in the vein of the Alpha Report but Im not here to talk to myself. If you guys want me to keep doing this I need some feedback on the quality and if you guys like it or not. I would also like to get some conversation going before the playoffs. We have 5 teams at 10-2 or better so this post season should be a good one. Right now 5 teams have secured playoff spots, 5 teams have been eliminated, 6 teams are fighting for the final 3 spots, and 3 teams could be eliminated today which would seal up the playoff races and only leave positioning to be determined.

The Clinchers-

Melbourne-
Games of interest- Sacramento, Oklahoma, Wollongong
The Dreadnoks are currently in first place but that could change very quickly. A loss to the Bears would knock the 11-1 Dreadnoks to #3 due to Tiebreakers with Tonga and Oklahoma, provided everyone else wins out.

Papua New Guinea-
Games of interest- Adamstown, Newcastle
The Cannibals are firmly entrenched at #2, it will be much easier for them to move down than it would to move up. They hold their own destiny though. Win out and its two home playoff games.

Palau-
Games of interest- Cook Island, Gold Coast
Palau has to wait for one of the top two to slip up, and with arguably the easiest remaining schedule of the playoff clinchers, they will do just that.

Oklahoma-
Games of interest- Melbourne
The Bears playoff seeding is going to come down to one game, Melbourne. Win and they can jump back to #1. Lose and they can fall to #5. The Bears were the last remaining undefeated team in Alpha but have had some struggles lately as their opponents have found a kink in their armor. They need to win out to have a legitimate shot at home field throughout the playoffs.

Tonga-
Games of interest- Cook Island, Adamstown, Dayton, Endzone
The Havoc have to close out their season against 4 playoff hopefull teams. Now Adamstown and Dayton are not the toughest games on their schedule, but both are still alive in the playoff chase...for now. Tonga is the only team with 4 quality opponents left and need to win out, and have a Melbourne loss to get a shot at home field throughout.

In contention-

Gold Coast-
Games of interest- E.C., Palau
At 8-4 Gold Coast is in the driver seat for the #6 seed. They have a 1 game lead with 4 to go, but could fall out of the race with a meltdown combined with a run by Sacramento or Adamstown. Unlikely, but still a possibility. I wouldnt lose too much sleep over it.

E.C.-
Games of interest- Gold Coast, Cook Island
E.C. can move up to #6 with a win over Gold Coast, but a loss would drop them to #8 and make the final showdown against Cook Island even more important. Lose both and they could be out of the playoffs.

Cook Island-
Games of interest- Tonga, Papua, E.C.
For Sacramento, Adamstown, and Dayton, this is the team you are interested in. They currently hold the #8 seed, and have a brutal schedule left. 8-8 is looking like a realistic final record which would open the window for all 3 teams if they are able to win out.

Sacramento-
Games of interest- Melbourne
Sacramento would be eliminated with a loss combined with the Express and Cobras both winning.

Adamstown-
Games of interest- Tonga, Papua
Adamstown would be eliminated with a loss combined with the Express and Cobras both winning.

Dayton- would be eliminated with a loss combined with a Cook Island win.

Eliminated-

Streator
Papeete
Orlando
Buffalo
Majuro

Well done, gambrinus843. OK how does Oklahoma jump Melbourne if The Cannibals, & Palau have wins over Oklahoma and we're all tied at 2 losses? Tonga has a win over us and you but lost to Oklahoma and Palau. I don't know the formula. Where it gets interesting is that Melbourne, Papau & Tonga all have solid challenges in week 16. That 49 yrd FG at the buzzer by Tonga against us really makes everything interesting...

Yes your right, I realized that half way through my write up that It wouldnt go solely based on head to head since too many teams would have identical records and noone has victories over everyone else, but I was too invested in the write up to stop and change everything lol. I will work on an accurate breakdown at the top for next weeks games since Things may be a little more clear, but the first tiebreaker after head to head would be points scored. After that Im not sure.

And with points scored being the tiebreaker right now Melbourne would be leading by 33 points over Papua New Guinea and a large deficit between the next team Oklahoma at 140pts. So It would look as though Melbourne and Papua New Guinea would battle it out for #1 with a slight edge to Melbourne with three games remaining. If Melbourne Loses 1 game and then everyone else wins out, Tonga has taken a step back after losing today.

-----a. If there are only 2 teams, it's just based upon the head-to-head matchup
-----b. If there are more than 2 teams, then it's based upon these factor in this order:
1. # of head-to-head wins against the other teams with the same record
2. # of points scored
3. # of points allowed.

Just a point of information, gambrinus, but Palau has already played Cook Island in week 1.

Yep, sorry that game was supposed to be under Papua not Palau, similar names, wrote it down by the wrong team. I will have things straightened out for next week though. Good to know about the Tiebreakers Bugger, thanks, I couldnt find that stuff when I was looking and since they took down the search I got tired of manually looking.

Bugger,
I still dont know how this would work though, because basically both Papua new guinea and Melbourne would have 2 wins while Oklahoma and Palau would only have 1, so would that then revert to the head to head between Papua New Guinea and Melbourne? or would we move on to the next tie breaker? and would only Papa New Guinea and Melbourne move on to the next tie breaker or would all 4 teams since there was no clear cut winner at #1b? Im confused.

Melbourne wins the league with a win over Oklahoma next game. You have tie breaker in the head to head over Papau & Palau. No chance you guys lose to Streator and your game against the Vamps will be meaningless in the playoff picture with a win over Oklahoma.

The only way Papau can win the division is if we win out and you lose 2 games, we hold tie breaker advantage over Palau & Oklahoma.

Palau get the second seed if they win out which they should do (though Gulf Coast is a game opponent) if Papau loses one of the next three.

If Oklahoma beats Melbourne things get real interesting because we'd have a 4 way tie (Melbourne, Papau, Palau & Oklahoma) for 1st assuming Papau & Palau win. gambrinus843 please handle business and don't let this happen, lol.

What am I missing?

No clue honestly... I just remember seeing that post. It's nice to see everyone so close. Going to be a fun playoffs no matter what order we're in.

Just wanted to say good job on the Alpha playoff breakdown gambrinus843. Wish I had more time to devote to this forum for Alpha. This season definately seems to be more competitive in Alpha. Looking forward to the playoffs. Thanks to you and Mr. Deeds for keeping Alpha in the forum.
