As the season comes closer to a close, there are some teams finishing with a sprint, while other are clearly falling behind. The Hillbillies jump up five spots with an impressive win against Vinland, while the Guerillas fall five spots with an equally embarrassing loss to the quickly improving Smoke. Who will make a push for playoff seeding? The East wasn't cleared up at all this past week, but games between QC and Halifax, and Cheyenne and St. Johns will go a long way to clearing up the picture. In the west, the lone dominant team stands towering above the rest (for now), but when playoff time comes, will a lower seed follow in the Sasquatches footsteps and win it all?
Well, these rankings probably won't give you the answer, but they are entertaining for at least another round of games.
The playoff teams:
Team Name/Record/Prev Week
1) Saskatchewan Sasquatches 13-0 1
They get to coast into the playoffs now. A very close victory over ISJ gave them a scare.
2) Queen City Black Cats 12-1 2
Next two weeks are incredibly tough, with games against Halifax and Nebraska back to back. Can they pull it out to stay the #1 seed?
3) Cheyenne Mountain Air Force 11-2 3
Cruised to a victory, but remaining schedule, starting with next week vs St. Johns, will be challenging.
4) Sudbury Spartans 11-2 4
I said it after they lost to QC when I didn't drop them any rankings: This team is very very good, and definitely someone you have to watch out for.
5) Halifax Hashishim 11-2 6
Big game next week vs QC. Looking at the two teams, they are very similiar...so who will win it? After QC, Winnipeg might challenge the Hashishim, but Flint is easy.
6) Nebraska Husker Maniacs 10-3 7
Looking forward to their matchup in two weeks against QC. They get another easy one next week vs Destruction Bay.
7) Hillsburgh Hillbillies 10-3 12
Very impressive win against Vinland, but some of their losses could have been wins. Both Vancouver and Calgary Thunder were winnable games. The inbreeds hope to win those come playoff time.
8) Vinland Vikings 10-3 5
I was trying to decide who was better between Vinland and Nebraska, comparing schedules (hard to do) and rosters. They look pretty similiar in a lot of ways, with a slight edge in talent to Vinland, but I think Nebraska has played slightly better as a team. Since I couldn't make up my mind, I just threw Hillsburgh above them and called it square for this week...after all, Hillsburgh did just beat them. Vancouver is now a much bigger game.
9) St. John's Salty Dogs 9-4 8
Moves down a spot due to no fault of their own, although allowing 27 to Flint is a minor flaw.
10) Manitoba Icemen 9-4 10
Loss to the Beavers may stand out as the one they'll really regret, but they're a good team. Interested to see how they play in the playoffs.
11) Vancouver Vindicators 10-3 11
Game against Vinland next week is huge for playoff seeding.
12) Calgary Thunder 8-5 14
Easy win this week, but the game against an angry Beavers time is lurking.
13) Saskatchewan Beavers 7-6 9
Two straight losses after 7 straight wins after four straight losses. This is a very streaky team.
14) Winnipeg Warriors 6-7 16
They like to win and lose in pairs of games, but they need to find a way to show up every game if they really want to compete in the playoffs.
15) Red Deer Blue Elk 7-6 13
Scoring zero against Sudbury doesn't bode well for their playoff picture.
16) Montreal Canadiens 8-5 15
Again, I could criticize them for allowing 24 vs Bloodweiser, but at least they won the game they were supposed to.
On the brink...
17) In San Jose Pimpin Aint Easy 5-8 17
Gave the Sasquatches all they could handle.
18) Revelstoke Revolution 6-7 19
Big win for them as they attempt to make the playoffs
19) Iqaluit Arctic Wolves 5-8 21
Easy win over Barkmere. Hoping to do better next year
20) Calgary Wrestlers 5-8 18
Loss hurts their playoff chances, but they aren't out yet
21) Flint Tropics 5-8 22
At least they scored more this week...but they also allowed more. Can't work that way if you want to win.
22) Cold Lake Wolverines 6-7 24
This team seems to have stopped the bleeding for now, but what will happen come offseason?
Maybe next year:
23)Toronto Smoke 3-10 26
New owner takes over and they win two straight. Watch out, this team is hot.
24) Saskatoon Guerillas 5-8 20
Freefalling very quickly...how did they lose to the Smoke?
25) Destruction Bay Dragons 5-8 23
They got beat by a lot again, and it won't be much better next week vs Nebraska
26) Portsmouth Cavaliers 4-9 25
Played well on offense during their loss
If only their was a way to go to a lower league...
27) Kelowna Outlaws 1-12 27
I think this team might have gotten worse through the season
28) Barkmere Bulldawgs 2-11 28
This team has actually gotten better through the season
29) Quebec Boreal 2-11 29
This team has not gotten better or worse all season...they were just always bad.
30) Bloodwesier Bugle All Stars 1-12 30
Wouldn't mind being demoted...if only it was possible.
31) Castlegar Crusaders 0-13 31
Won't win a game. Cupcake of the West
32) Peterborough Preachers 0-13 32
I think the cheerleaders for this team are better at football than it's players...
