Alberta (cp)- We knew this was going to happen eventually, but we didn't know it would happen this soon. After a blowout defeat at the hands of the Chilliwack Care Bears by a score of 35-3 Alberta has decided it is time for a new leader in the locker room. Team owner Mr. Lehi made it clear to his team that he will not stand for this losing and has fired their head coach.
"We appreciate his efforts for us, but in the end he was just not getting the job done. We're a better team than this. Our front office worked hard in the offseason and put together a good group of guys. You can't fire the players. A change had to be made", said Mr. Lehi.
We spoke with some players in the locker room after the game. One player echoed his owner's sentiments.
QB Simeon Powers had this to say, "We thought this year we'd be higher up in the standings than we are right now. There is no reason for this team to only have 1 win. These guys are working their tails off, but the results just aren't there."
So a new era begins and fans of the Irukandji have to be left wondering what they have to look forward to. From this reporters perspective it seems this team has a good core group of guys. Some players didn't buy into the old system and hopefully a new coach is all that's needed for this to happen. If their offense can get started they could have an outside chance of making the playoffs as an 8 seed.
We'd like to get some fan feedback. What do you think of this move? Can their season be salvaged?
