Hedgehog's Power Rankings - Week Four
A few things I want to get out of the way before the rankings proper. Dan and I are formulating these rankings differently and thought it'd be interesting to have two different sets of accounting tally the teams up. Like with Dan's rankings, these will only increase in accuracy as we play more games. I'd also like to thank Sawedust for creating the calcs/excel file and Moontayle of the Stalingrad Gryphon Army in EEPL for refining the formula and givng me said file to mess with.

These rankings are based on wins/losses, PERIOD. Harsh, yeah, but it's what's on the scoreboard that matters in the end.
The teams are ranked based on:
Overall Season Performance: The more you win through the season, the higher you go in the rankings.
Recent Season Performance (last four games): This is where who you play matters, factoring in the strength of the schedule in your last four games
The rankings themselves are done on pure math with on opinions; the commentary, on the other hand is something else….

Power Rankings
The Top Ten
1 - Cheyenne Mountain Air Force - (4-0) - N/A
Their stud WR, Champagne Room, leads the league in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns burning CBs in his wake. He did it again against the formerly unbeaten Destruction Bay Dragons. Their win against them and the Sudbury Spartans place them in the top spot in this week’s rankings. Can Champagne Room torment the Queen City Black Cats secondary in their next game?
2- Saskatchewan Sasquatches - (4-0) – N/A
The Former League Champs are #2 this week over the Vinland Vikings thanks to their impressive wins over the Manitoba Icemen and the Revelstoke Revolution. Led by QB B.J. Brockton and an efficient balanced attack of passing and pitches, the Sasquatches take on the Calgary Thunder next week looking for win #5.
3 - Halifax Hashishim - (4-0) – N/A
The Hashishim have proved themselves early in the season with eye-opening wins against the Red Deer Blue Elk, St. John’s Salty Dogs, the Nebraska Husker Maniacs – keeping them under 200 yards passing in that game. Look for them to be undefeated come Week 8; their three-game cakewalk against the Eastern Conference Cupcakes starts with the Barkmare Bulldawgs.
4 - Vinland Vikings - (4-0) – N/A
The Vinland Vikings are lower than the Sasquatches because 3 out of the 4 last games they played were against 0-4 teams. But they proved they could dominate the Guerrillaz in Week 4 thanks to an all-around team effort. They have a cupcake in the Toronto Smoke next followed by Manitoba Icemen, and Week #7’s Game of the Week vs. the Sasquatches.
5 - Queen City Black Cats - (4-0) – N/A
Right now, the Queen City Black Cats have the best rushing duo in the entire league but they’ve mostly done it against cupcakes. They’re up here mostly due to the dominating performance against the Red Deer Blue Elk in Week One and will face stiffer opposition against the Montreal Canadiens and the Cheyenne Mountain Air Force. Will Ben Juedah and Tyler Nixon blow past their next opponents like they have done with the past three?
6 - Cold Lake Wolverines - (4-0) – N/A
It might be too early to celebrate for the Cold Lake Wolverines – with a combined zero wins for all teams they’ve faced it makes you wonder what they will do against sterner opponents; especially since the wins versus the Saskatchewan Beavers (Rank 26) and the In San Jose Pimpin Ain’t Easy (Rank 24) were too close for comfort. Look to this team to drop in the rankings as the season closes, when they face better opponents.
7 - Sudbury Spartans - (3-1) – N/A
Two field goals make the difference between here and a higher spot due to a tough loss against the Cheyenne Mountain Air Force; though they’ve managed to beat everyone else they’ve faced handily. Interesting factoid about them: this team is #4 in Points Scored but only have one offensive player in the Passing, Rushing, and the Receiving leaderboards. They’ll be bringing their collective team effort against the Salty Dogs next week.
8 - Nebraska Husker Maniacs - (3-1) – N/A
It’s surprising to find the Husker Maniacs, an all-around solidly-built and balanced team lower in the rankings; that heartbreaker against the Hashishim cost them points. Good game with them against the Red Deer Blue Elk next week and then they can rest easy with three cakewalks in-a-row.
9 - Vancouver Vindicators - (3-1) – N/A
Someone had to replace the Team w/ the Biggest Mouth of last season, the Dallas Crimeboys, and in my opinion, the Vindicators are in serious contention for it. They backed it up with a win against the Hillbillies but did not losing by a point against the Revelstoke Revolution. They have a middling 3 games next before they face the Icemen.
10 - Manitoba Icemen - (3-1) – N/A
Wins and a relatively tough early string of games have the Icemen tied for #10, sqeaking by the #11 Saskatoon Guerrillas. But if the Icemen want to be truly elite in Canada A6 they have to beat teams by more than 5 points. They have a good chance to do just that with their next game against the Calgary Wrestlers.
The Best of the Rest
11. Saskatoon Guerillaz - (3-1) - NA
-Playoff quality; terrible loss by the Vikings leads them edged out of the #10 spot
12. Montreal Canadiens - (3-1) - NA
-They need to win more convincingly.
13. Hillsburgh Hillbillies - (3-1) - NA
-The Inbreds are on the three game hot streak and they have a relatively easy first half of the season.
14. Destruction Bay Dragons - (3-1) - NA
-They proved they can win big against the near-CPU teams; can they beat a team in the middle of the pack?
15. Calgary Wrestlers - (3-1) - NA
-Punching above their weight here; game against Icemen is an early litmus test if they’re the real deal.
16. Calgary Thunder - (2-2) - NA
-Winning big against the bottom of your conference will not matter if you can’t beat the teams around your level at all.
The Hopefuls
17. Red Deer Blue Elk - (2-2) - N/A
-This team will redeem their season; it’ll just take a while to get there.
18. Revelstoke Revolution - (2-2) - N/A
-Nice win for them; this is a good, scrappy team.
19. Flint Tropics - (2-2) - N/A
-What the…-they’re better than the near-CPU teams, for sure. They’ll be dropping after their game with the Preachers.
20. Quebec Boreal - (2-2) - N/A
-Reality hits really hard for this team with the blowout losses.
21. St. John’s Salty Dogs - (1-3) - N/A
-Was one of their games bugged? Either way, this team will be rising in the rankings by season close.
22. Winnipeg Warriors - (1-3) - N/A
-Another case with an underrated team where margins of victory/loss was close.
Better Luck Next Season
23. Portsmouth Cavaliers - (1-3) - N/A
-Just not good enough overall; enjoy the wins against the cupcakes
24. In San Jose Pimpin Aint Easy - (0-4) - N/A
-All I can see if that their first sure win will be against the Castlegar Crusaders. Next one…I don’t know.
25. Iqaluit Arctic Wolves - (0-4) - N/A
-Great team to start off with, if this was last season.
26. Saskatchewan Beavers - (0-4) - N/A
-Lots of question marks here. On paper, this team should be winning.
27. Kelowna Outlaws - (0-4) - N/A
-Maybe it’s a tough early schedule…or maybe they’re outclassed overall.
28. Toronto Smoke - (0-4) - N/A
-…<shrugs>…
The D-League – These teams need no comment on how bad they are.
29. Barkmere Bulldawgs - (0-4) - N/A
30. Castegar Crusaders - (0-4) - N/A
31. Bloodweiser Bugle All Stars - (0-4) - N/A
32. Peterborough Preachers - (0-4) - N/A
