Rip away guys:
1. Carolina Hammer 3-0 Last week = 1
Carolina continues to dominate in the early part of the season. After notching a 37 point win over #8 Canton, they’ve now played 3 of the top 8 ranked teams and won each game by a minimum of 22 points. Their schedule doesn’t get any easier as next week they get their toughest opponent yet in the #4 Rock Stars.
2. DC Warriors 3-0 Last week = 2
Like Carolina, DC has started off the season with a bang notching up three straight victories and their closest game has been a win by 20 points over the surprising Ducks. However, unlike Carolina, they have yet to play a team in the top 8. Up next is #14 Cleveland.
3. Care Bears 3-0 Last week = 3
Care Bears racked up 500 yards on the Greyhounds to notch their 3rd win of the season. Like DC they’ve started of the season in a dominating fashion but have yet to play a team in the top 8 of the rankings. They’ve had two common opponents with DC: Compton and French Lick. Since DC had a higher margin of victory in both games (Compton by 42 and French Lick by 23) then the Care Bears (Compton by 35 and French Lick by 17), the Care Bears stay at #3 this week. Up next is a feisty #10 West Bend team that is looking for a signature win to show they belong in the top 8.
4. Rock Stars 3-0 Last week = 4
The Rock Stars have not been tested since their week 1 win over the Dogg Pound and knocked off #13 Columbus by 23 in week 3. They get their toughest test of the season in week 4 as they travel to The Anvil to take on Eastern juggernaut Carolina. A win here and they would vault to the #1 spot in the rankings.
5. Dogg Pound 2-1 Last week = 5
Dogg Pound continue to rack up big wins since their week 1 loss to the Rock Stars, this time #12 Colorado was the victim of their relentless fury in a lopsided 40-13 Orlando win. They are itching to prove they belong in the elite of the division, but aren’t going to get the matchup to do so next week as they face off against #16 Cincinnati.
6. NY Steel-heads 1-2 Last week = 8
A 37-0 win over #15 Compton has helped settle down things in NY. ESPN analyst John Clayton has reported that Hall and Smith have agreed to stick out the season and Claystone is only half-heartedly thinking of firing himself as head coach. One has to wonder why NY has jumped 2 spots in the rankings as they’ve only won 1 game over the season which was over the #15 team? The answer: I feel Oregon was a wakeup call, plus they lost to Carolina by 22 while the Monkeys lost by 35 and Canton lost by 37. Up next is #9 French Lick who is smarting after back to back losses against the Care Bears and DC. NY would be wise to not overlook this dangerous team who is looking for a signature win early in the season.
7. Eleven Wise Monkeys 2-1 Last week = 7
The Monkeys stay at the #7 spot after a tight win over #11 Oregon. They’re probably not going to like being passed by NY as they beat Oregon who beat NY, but I’m giving the Carolina games more credence and some added weight to NY’s history of dominance in the A1. Up next is #15 Compton, the third common opponent with NY. A big win here, may grab the Monkeys the #6 spot if NY struggles against French Lick.
8. Canton Hall of Famers 2-1 Last week = 6
Canton is reeling after a bruising 37 point loss to #1 Carolina. Owner Laoks was quoted as saying, “damn, I knew they were good, but gawd damn!” before he promptly knocked back his 25th Makers Mark of the night. Rumor on the street is he found solace with the Carolina cheerleaders that night, but that’s just conjecture at this point. Up next, they get the battle hardened #11 Oregon Ducks who are not to be taken lightly after upsetting NY and almost taking down the Monkeys.
9. French Lick 1-2 Last week = 10
French Lick loses by 23 and moves up in the power rankings? This move has more to do with a common opponent ranking vs. West Bend than their loss to DC. However, French Lick still needs a signature win and they will get a chance to do so against # 6 NY this week. A win over NY and French Lick will move into the top 8.
10. West Bend Warlocks 2-1 Last week = 9
West Bend handled their business last week with a solid 22-0 win over #16 Cincinnati. However, since French Lick beat Cincinnati by 30 and have only lost to #2 DC and #3 Care Bears, West Bend slips to #10 this week. West Bend begins a brutal stretch of their schedule next week with the #3 Care Bears, before moving on to #2 DC, #6 NY, #7 Monkeys , #8 Canton, and the #4 Rock Stars. A couple victories in that stretch and West Bend is right back in the thick of things. However, if they go 0-6, it will be a tough road to the playoffs.
11.Oregon Ducks 1-2 Last week = 11
Oregon gained some more respect this week as they almost pulled off the upset over the #7 Monkeys. Up next is #8 Canton – a win here and Oregon will definitely give us something to talk about. Looks like some of those offseason acquisitions have really paid off for this former AA1 castoff.
12. Colorado Storm 0-3 Last week = 12
Colorado continues their tough stretch of games with a disappointing 27 point loss to #5 Orlando. Some hope is on the horizon though as they face off against #13 Columbus in week 4 and hope to notch that first victory of the year. Colorado retains the #12 spot over Columbus this week as their common opponents don’t reveal much with Colorado having a better showing vs. the Rock Stars and Columbus having a better showing against Canton. All that goes out the window next week as they go head to head.
13. Columbus Spartans 0-3 Last week = 13
Columbus has faced three very good teams so far and has failed to beat any of them with the latest being a 23-0 loss against the #4 Rock Stars. Up next is the Storm as Columbus looks to grab their first victory of the season and I believe their first victory ever over Colorado.
14. Cleveland Greyhounds 1-2 Last week = 14
After a crushing loss to the #3 Care Bears in week 3, things don’t look to get any easier as they host the #2 DC Warriors. Things look tough over the next few games, though they may be eyeing #12 Colorado in week 9 for a possible upset bid and secure their place in the A1 for another season.
15. Compton ‘Nilla Wafers 0-3 Last week = 15
its been a tough early season for Compton with tough lopsided losses to #3 Care Bears, #1 DC, and #6 NY. Don’t throw these guys into the relegation heap yet though, those are some top teams they lost to. While the coming weeks don’t look much easier as they face off against the #7 Monkeys next week before moving on to #8 Canton and #4 Rock Stars, we won’t get a good picture of this team until they face #12 Colorado in week 7 and #13 Columbus in week 8.
16. Cincinnati Slaughter 0-2 Last week = 16
Things didn’t get any better this week with a 22 point loss to #10 West Bend, but they didn’t get any worse either. Up next, they face #5 Orlando which looks to lengthen Cincinnati’s losing streak. One could forgive them if they look beyond the next couple weeks to their week 11 face-off against Colorado and a chance to restore some pride.
1. Carolina Hammer 3-0 Last week = 1
