Sasquatch slap some bad feelings on Chilliwack Care Bears

Saskatoon (CP)… Determination. Fury. Viciousness. They probably were not the feeling the Chilliwack Care Bears were hoping to receive at the Footprint yesterday, but its what they got from the hometown Sasquatch in a 23-7 drubbing.

The Sasquatch rebounded from their disappointing home-opener to even their record at 1-1 with a solid victory of the well regarded Care Bears. The Sasquatch attacked both the Chilliwack offence and defense with equal ferocity, ended up ahead throughout the box score.

“We had a real test on our hands with their defence, but Hawk and our running backs were able to move the chains and our receiving core gave me and Alge good targets to throw to,” said quarterback Joe Tagger.

Tagger and Alge Burro both threw touchdown darts on long gains in a big second quarter where the ‘Quatch put up 17 on the score board. Kicker Hamlin Chestnut added a 45 yard shot to round out the offensive push.

The Sasquatch defence looked for the kill against the Care Bears as well, recording their first sacks of the new season, courtesy of free agent acquisition CD Strahan and Benjamin Wood on back to back plays.

“I swear, the tackle’s eyes were still cloudy from the head slap Benny popped him with. He got scared and there’s no room for fear in this game. I just rolled through him,” said Strahan.

The preceding sack by Wood was marked by a highlight reel play where Wood used a swim move to the outside, followed by a clubbing arm clear out to push aside the tackle.

“I call it the Sasquatch Paw,” laughed Wood, “Coach Ching and I were working on my rush moves in the offseason. Hopefully, you’ll see a couple more sacks out of me this year.”

The Sasquatch play the highly regarded Kelowna Bulls next week to finish a tough 3 game opening stint.
