Here is a link to the Power Rankings for Week 1:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pOUigrsS32wKaBv8hVP5DFQ&hl=en

Just by way of explanation, these results are purely statistical and consider various different factors (which are referenced in the document itself). Since only one regular season week has gone by, there is very little data to base the rankings on, AND THE RANKINGS WILL CHANGE A LOT IN THE NEXT 4-5 WEEKS. Because of the scarcity of data, I have considered the scrimmage games and given them collectively about half the weight of the regular season game. I recognize that many teams were using the scrimmages were before team rosters were set, were while teams tested the new AI, etc. but they do provide some additional data. Due to these same facts, however, the scrimmage games will have even less weight in each of the next two weeks, and I will phase them out of consideration entirely after week 3.

The document has information on standings, ranking numbers, strength of schedule, upcoming strength of schedule, and breaks out the rankings by conference and league. But, by way of league-wide summary:

1 Hattgenstein Volunteers
2 Rome Poison
3 Global Gym Purple Corba's
4 Normandy Invasion
5 Tilburg Lightning
6 Black Country Knights
7 Chernobyl Neutrons
8 Flying Monkeeh Armada
9 Pamplona Bulls

Don't remember the username in the other thread, but were you the same dude that did statistical rankings for last season as well? I'd be interested in seeing those too.

Any type of league/conference ranking that has our Monkeehs making the playoffs is alright by me . We have a very tough stretch of games coming up and it will give us a chance 2 see where our team ranks amongst the upper class of our conference.
Considering where we have come from and where we are now, we will settle for nothing less than facing the best.

Yes. The file is updated so that an additional sheet includes the final rankings for last year (after the regular season only, as it doesn't consider playoff wins/losses).

Yeah, we all know that Porto will be up from there in the near future, and will probably be #9 after this week.

The standings will change wildly for the first couple weeks, and I don't see it settling down until midseason, when schedules start converging. In any case, it'll be fun debating our rankings until that time.

Nice job on the old rankings too; looked pretty rocksolid to me.

File is updated (http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pOUigrsS32wKaBv8hVP5DFQ&hl=en).

Despite having yet to give up a point this season, Hattgenstein drops two spots and out of the top overall spot, while Rome takes over at #1, with Tilburg at #2. Who would have thought last year that we would be looking forward to a week 4 matchup of undefeated and top-ranked Rome and Tilburg? That's right, I'm going out on a limb and predicting that Rome and Tilburg will remain undefeated despite their week 3 matchups with Cologne and Brasilia, respectively.

The summary for this week:
1 Rome Poison
2 Tilburg Lightning
3 Hattgenstein Volunteers
4 Normandy Invasion
5 Italian Stallions
6 Black Country Knights
7 Polk High Panthers
8 Flying Monkeeh Armada
9 Porto Wolves
10 Dublin Shamrocks

23 Hessel Voltage
24 Antwerp Sofa Kings
25 The Shady McKrackers
26 Helsinki Crabs
27 Sicily Mobsters
28 Davenport Tigers
29 Siena IL PALIO
30 Sinsheim MC Airs
31 Jellystone Park Bruins
32 Brasilia Rockets

One thing kind of odd... Per your rankings, Polk High has had the second easiest schedule.... yet has the second easiest remaining schedule. On the other hand, Cologne has had the easiest schedule and has the toughest remaning schedule, which makes more sense.

Tilburg has very competent leadership, they should not be taken lightly.

I'll look at it and see what I find. My only thought right now is that the SOS rankings do consider the GLB ratings of the teams at the time they are played, but the upcoming only considers the most recent rating. So, for example, if Polk plays a team when they have a 30 rating, and that team then moves up to a 33 rating, it will project as a more difficult opponent for the rest of the league than it was at the time Polk played them. I don't know if that is the cause, just an initial thought.

EDIT:
Okay, I looked at it. There was a minor calculation error, but it didn't change much in Zeta. It looks as though when The Shady McCrackers GLB rating changed from 33 to 36, it did affect Polk HIgh, but I think the bigger reason is just the lack of data (the SOS rankings don't consider scrimmage games). I think the past SOS ranking is the one that is particularly not reflective of the actual difficulty of Polk High's schedule. Specifically, this early in the season, the weights given to the win percentage of Polk High's opponents' opponents is dragging Polk High down (for example, had Polk High's opponents opponents won just one more game, Polk High would move up 5 spots in the past SOS ranking). Of all the factors, that is the one that should even out the most quickly between teams, so I think it should start to make more sense with a couple of more games played, but I'll keep an eye on it.
