Ok I'm back for another season and I'll see if I can keep up with these. I will admit I haven't gone into extreme depth in scouting team changes so don't jump on me for that.
GOTW 1*San Dimas Saints @ Russian Tractor
A matchup between two teams that made the conference semi-finals last season. The Saints made a splash by coming into the league and throwing the ball like crazy and pulling a huge upset over the LAX in the playoffs. The Tractor came into league losing their first two games and then going on a rampage winning until the conference finals loss to the Infection. With the Infection gone, you have to believe the Tractor are the favorites out of the Elephant this season. Some early boosts by the Saints have made this one a little more exciting and the Tractor have not had a very good offensive performance this pre-season so far. Can the Saints pull the big upset to start their season off right? I'm not banking on it.
Tractor 23 Saints 20
Los Angeles Xtreme @ Mozambique Lions
Andrew Fiorentino brings his MVP performance from last season back, but after a disappointing Pre-season, you have to wonder if he'll repeat his dominating performance from last season. The Xtreme lost both games in the Pre-season and had a 1st round disappointment in last season's playoffs. The Lions on the other hand have been making it known that they made a bunch of off-season acquisitions. In this recruiting environment, I commend them for their efforts. Is this the same Lions team that lost 8 of their final 11 games and didn't log a win over any of the Elephant playoff teams last season? Of course not. Are they much better? We will see.
Xtreme 27 Lions 6
GOTW 2*Morocco Camels @ African Killer Bees
Again, two playoff teams from last season back at it. The Camels had high hopes in their first season and were a little disappointed in falling to the #4 seed. This season they are #1 in KellerFox's pre-season rankings once again. Can they live up to expectations this time around? Knut is the self-proclaimed AI champion, logging 6 million hours on it since it's release. On the other side, the African Killer Bees will look to continue on the success they had in their first season. A team with low expectations, they performed great and they had one of the top rush defenses in the league. I expect another great defensive team this season, but they don't have quite enough to take the Camels. Good luck to both of these great teams this season.
Camels 17 Bees 10
Eaton Beavers @ Somalia Wildcats
The new kids on the block seem to be a contender right away. They showed their strength with a pre-season win over the Lion #2 seed from last season. The Beavers would love to welcome them to AAA the right way, but it won't be easy. Somalia has a very balanced offense and a very solid defense. Good luck!
River Styx Jinx @ Congo Death
A matchup of teams looking to get into the playoffs this season after just missing out last. The Death look stronger on paper but the Jinx showed last season that they have some upset potential. The Jinx easily dispatched their pre-season opponents while the Death did not. This should be a very close match up, but I'm taking the Jinx.
Jinx 22 Death 20
High Plains Drifters @ Gold Coast Corsairs
The Corsairs are quickly becoming the league's most hated team. Welcoming them to Africa AAA is a team that was very disappointing last season. The Drifters score a 39 in the overall, but they really aren't there with the other top teams yet. I wish someone could welcome these arrogant kids from AA with a loss, but it just won't happen.
Corsairs 31 Drifters 14
Mogadishu Malice @ Lake M'Zumba Cardinals
The Malice finished last season off acting like a real team and avoiding the relegation that was awaiting them. This season, they should get off to a good start against a team who did win relegation.
Malice 24 Cardinals 3
New Jersey Blazes @ Chicago Wheelhouse
The Blazes are back and look to have beefed up the DLine. They ended the season with 6 straight wins to regain some semblance of success for their season. Overall though, they were definitely disappointed. Don't overlook them this season though. The Wheelhouse have decided to empty their depth chart in an attempt to just be annoying. They weren't good last season, they won't have gotten much better. Quite telling is that they could only beat Swaziland by 27 last season. They just aren't that good.
