Sasquatch pound Pounders in exhibition play

Saskatoon (CP)… The GLB exhibition season kicked off with a bang yesterday with the Saskatoon Sasquatch winning a one-sided affair over the Regina Pounders from the Eastern Conference, 20-7.

“It’s only exhibition, we’re aware of that and we’re not breaking out the champagne,” said offensive coordinator Papa Mudcat, “But it was nice to get our guys into a real game situation and see where we stand. Needless to say, we’re pretty happy.”

Saskatoon’s offence, marked by somewhat sporadic performance last season, was a model of efficiency, outgaining Regina 403 yards to 183. The air attack ran predominantly through new receiver Chad Growler, who corralled 12 passes for 132 yards. Quarterbacks Joe Tagger and Alge Burro both played for significant stretches, completing 66 percent of their attempts for 217 yards. Burro also connected with newly acquired tight end Bruiser McMullen on a 30 yard touchdown strike in the first quarter.

“The strong safety came on the safety blitz and I found some space. Then it was just a matter of everybody sticking with their blocks to get me into the endzone,” said McMullen.

“Hopefully you’ll see some more of those when the regular season rolls around.”

The Sasquatch defence held the Pounders to seven points and kept the pressure on Pounder QB Mihai Mitrachi with a steady push from the defensive line.

“This is just a taste of what we can do,” said defensive tackle William Bloody, “Coach Ching has the scheme laid out and we’ve bought in. We comin to bring the pain…. Every game, every play.”

The Sasquatch face the Quebec Eagles in their final preseason matchup before starting the season in Shilo against the Silly Nannies.

Well the Eagles DC is going to have a lot of "fun" trying to gameplan to stop SQ so they can get a offseason win

Despite a "Weak" O-Line as it has been described this offseason we still didnt give up a sack...yet

I think it'll be a good game... Gameplanning counts for alot..its how we got wins last year.

Man, the weak O-Line crack got under your skin a bit hey... Hopefully our defensive line will be just as irritating next game.

No it didn't bother me how could it...its the truth :-/

But id rather have a Preseason game vs a High team than two bad teams cause beating two teams worse than or equal to me don't tell me anything

lol thanks. My QB went 9/27 so I'm assuming that Bort is still working on the CB vs. WR battle. He never plays that bad. Your CB's were all over the WR's, like they were running the routes lol
