Strength or Blocking...which has an edge? Or do you think a balanced build is king?

from the sounds of it to perform jobs properly you will need a more balanced build.

I go with a bit more str.

I performed much better when strength was 5-7 points above blocking.

My general rule of thumb is, LTs get more blocking than str and everybody else gets more str than blocking. Some people fall in love with str though because it gives them pancakes and they think that makes them good. Just watch film and see what your weaknesses are and assign points accordingly.

Just made a guard and was trying to figure which to soft cap first. This helps some.

I think that strength does help you beat on the opponent a little bit more. On any specific play, it might not make a difference, but stronger players tend to wear out the weaker players so at the end of a game the strong players will be at an advantage with energy.

As far as I can tell, strength seems to be more of a factor in run blocking, and blocking tends to do more while pass blocking.

Strenght is THE key to making pancakes. Blocking is THE key to holding off the D-Line. That's the difference.

If you are making a Runblock, then go with more strenght then blocking and make sure to put some points in the Pancake SA.
Making a Passblock, go with a more even strenght/blocking ratio.
