Well, gang, season 4 is upon us. Scrimmages start tuesday, and this will give us all an idea of how our offseason roster moves and the new changes to the sim and advanced AI have impacted our teams.

Anyone want to put a sweet prediction on how your team will do?

The Stucknut Mighty Triceratops Wearing a Saddle started last season slow, going 0-6 or something (I'm on a blackberry) against strong competition, but finished the season with a good string of games and an overall 6-10 record.

I'm setting our over/under for victories at 8, and taking the over.

I'll go with the 8-9 for the triceratops, doesnt seem way too out of reach.

So we're going to go 8-8 and get bounced in the first round?
Great.

how much will the scrimmages really tell us?? wont it be a case of ppl experimenting with the AI etc ready for the season??

One of our scrimmage games is completely worthless, the other is against a team that is pretty evenly matched with us.

I'd like to think that they are going with a gameplan that is similar to what they'd run in a normal game, even if it is sort of vanilla, in which case you can learn what to tweak...

Also, the scrimmage games should let us know a little about the Penalty impact, and it can give you a good idea what you should work on as far as your player builds to avoid the dreaded offsides/false start.

The scrimmage games will be as useless as the matchup screen in telling us which teams are going to be good this year. I know that Im using it as a way to test my new defense tactics in different situations as opposed to as an overall game plan. Kind of like like testing each play in a vaccuum. Maybe other OC/DCs will be using an actual game plan especially those teams sticking with the 4-3. Who knows?

I wonder if one will have more penalties when facing a higher leveled player, and the inverse as well... would one have less penalties when facing lower leveled players?

Does anyone know, besides lack of vision, what causes penalties?

I've read that it is a vision/confidence combo, but we will find out soon enough.

I guess I just don't understand then. If it's purely objective, meaning it's only relying on vision and confidence, we'd all be jumping offsides or committing false starts. I mean, lets generalize, and say that for what it's worth, the collective vision and/or confidence for linemen and d-linemen is about 20-30. Well, that's out of 100. So, until we get into the 70-80's we will continue to commit penalties. Right?

I think, and hopefully this is how it works, that it's more subjective. If one's going up against a player with higher confidence/vision, then he will cause more penalties.

Just my 2 cents, and really I'm just ranting, since I have no say in the matter...

Yep i agree, also squads will not be fully complete as there will be another round of recruiting when season 4 ticket money comes in. So It doesn't really tell us much.

My prediction is a .500 season and sneak into the playoffs!

I've read that it depends on the level of league that you're in. Although Bort has debunked this claim, this would make sense to me. This would mean that the penalty factor would get less and less sever the lower you go in the leagues.

My guess would be that all of the leagues would be pretty even right now, they would gradually increase the penalty factors as the spacing between talent level increases.

I'm sure it would work in the same what that stamina does, in relation to your level, 20 stamina is fine for a lvl 1, as I'm sure a lvl 1 with 20 vision would not commit a lot of penalties.

Agreed. Although positions will matter too. I don't think a FB will be called for a false start, although you never know

And I see the Warriors (the real ones) going 13-3 to 15-1. Depends on what happens in their 2nd game.

And ryan, how the hell did you guys get a 39 rating for your team? I'm trusting the matchup bars less and less.

We made a lot of moves in the offseason, focused differently on our builds at the end of the year, and traded in on some equipment.
