I'm by no means a master of this game, but from everything I've seen so far, everyone's wood over pancakes doesn't seem deserved. A few things seem way more important, such as picking up the right guy on a run-block, or not letting DLs or blitzers getting past you. Even moreso, it seems way too often on replays when an O-lineman gets a pancake, he hasn't actually taken the guy out of the play, but just neutralized the pancakee for a second or two, where then the guy can make the play when the carrier comes through the supposed hole.

I wish they'd post more stats for O-line, such as sacks allowed, or Y/C when they're on the field. I know this can be found out, but it's kind of a bitch, time-wise

Thoughts?

I would tend to agree....i would like to know if my LOT is holding his blocks and keeping his QB safe rather then putting some one on their butts....

People who help their team know that pancakes aren't very important. People who just look at stats see shiny numbers and go that way.

Not to say that pancakes are bad though. They're definitely very good in the running game and good in the passing game but they only get attention because they're the only visible stat.

agreed.
pancakes are a terrible stat in terms of how your guy is actually doing.
my guys don't rack up the pancake numbers going against same level competition, but... they don't allow hurries or sacks, either!

Yeah...rommvon...i always check sacks and hurries to check out how my o line is doing. Of course i'm in charge of the weak side...lol

They're also great for reducing the morale of the linemen.

Yeah ammodude69...what is the point of a LOT getting a pancake...all runs are to the right. Until the game starts running left then pancakes for LOT's are just demoralizing a side that is weak...lol...

agreed, but much like real football... the O-line is doing it's best when it's not noticed...

LOL, I have a level 16 LOT and a 17 LG, so the pancakes are few and far between!
I immediately scroll down to see if the opposing D had sacks and hurries. Then I scan the play-by-play to make sure it wasn't one of MY guys. It's rare that it is... so I'm happy with where I'm going.

the pancake does allow your OL to go after another block downfield which can lead to a bigger play. as mentioned above, if you quickly overwhelm the DL and have a slow RB behind you, the DL could right himself just in time to make the tackle while you're looking downfield.

most of the time, creating a hole by pushing the DL to one side or staying between your QB and the DL is a job well done. getting credit for a pancake is just a nice bonus. we've all seen close games between similarly talented teams that pancakes are rare. so why put a slew of points there when it's not going to have much influence in the games that matter most?

Pancakes are overrated. I get very irritated when I see a pancaked player immediately get up and make a tackle. To me, it is better to just block the player out of the play and not pancake him.

The only plus to a pancakes is the morale hit that the opponents takes when he gets pancaked.

i think dwoody hit on the real point: wouldn't it be better putting those SP into other areas than Pancake (and Hands and CutBlock to get there). To get pancake to 4, I need 13 SP (1 for hands, which it seems to me does nothing with no penalties currently in the game, 2 for cut block, which i would probably put sp into but not necessarily so early, and 10 (2*2 + 2*3) into pancake). i think i'd rather have 13 pts in agil or vision, or whatever...jmo
