If I use a preset custom defense on my team's tactics page, does that override my own defensive AI settings?

Not sure I fully understand the question, but yes. That's the general idea. You can use the calendar to pick and choose which set you want to use. You can have 1 default for your team.
You can copy it to your own team and then edit the copy to your heart's content.

I dont think I explained it well. On the Team tactics page, you can create and use defensive presets created by players...eg Cover 2 (Sugar Kapa'a), Stop The Run (TJ Spikes), ect.
On my MAIN page (Account Home Page) there is a tactics tab with more advanced options like creating plays, packages, and manipulating the AI.
My question is, do these two sets of tactics work together?

Your own tactics tab, doesn't interact with the team tab, unless you specifically want it to.
Everyone has their own tactics. People without teams can build all the plays and Ai they want.
If you go into the team tactics, there's tabs that say "My Plays" or "My Packages" and so on... As long as you give permission for that team to access your personal tactics.
You can access preset Ai from both the team, and your personal tactics. You can copy the presets to both. If you chose to run a preset from the team tactics calendar, it'll override everything else.

Since your team is in Casual you cannot use the bolded...only the preset AIs.

Oh that is not what I want. How do I move my team out of casual so that I can use advanced defensive plays that I create myself?

You can't move your team unfortunately, you will have to purchase a regular league team instead.

You haven't really upgraded your stadium much, haven't bought new sections. You may lose some flex but at the end of the season sell the casual team and buy a regular team and sign everyone to the new team.
