What depth do you find is most successful for blitzes?

I'm wondering if Shallow is the optimal play as they closer to the LOS.

Or would normal or deep be better to help with OL missing a vision check (if that plays at all into it).

IMO CB5.

Philosophically, just work around a 4-1-6 Dime concept for zones/coverage. Make sure it's solid for 7 coverage dots and a 4 man rush. Then switch that to Quarter, and just use your CB5 like a DE.

What about LBs

IMO LBs tend to be team specific.

You can kind of edge blitz some teams like a DE. Others can open holes for blitzing deep, like use a DE to draw an OT out and then shoot the B gap

Way back when, the last time I ever blitzed, it was all about overloading sides with speedy blitzer LB's. Set them to shallow and hope they jump off the line. The most effective blitzing these days is definitely the CB blitzes from either side. With that said, as expected it can be brutally vulnerable when picked up by the O-Line.

Cool Thank you for that information. We have been trying a both those types. We have seen both work sporadically so we are curious if one is more effective or if we were missing another method.

You can help the setupby shifting the DL....eg blitz ROB so shift line strong...Add in LDE shallow flat zone for outside contain... Maybe give the ROB cover HB Wk or blitz which helps Vs Screens to w/s

If you blitz both OLBs then set the DL to Balanced or Bunch... whichever puts yyour DEs head to head with the O/Tkl

The limitations of the Custom Plays are unkind on Blz LBs however so personally I prefer CBs

Lastly "hone" your aims when blitzing.... A hurried pass can be more advantageous than a sack especially with the high Int rate in GLB... Pressure and having blitzes combined with NT zones etc can cause major disruption

Would you approach the positioning any differently blitzing from the outside vs an interior blitz?

Would depend on the situation Im looking to exploit...given that inside pass blitzing is very hit and miss and if over used gives the oppo OC a soft inside run (ie RecFB/recTE/PHB set up on normal down and distance plays I blitz or stack HHLBs against the run but rarely blitz a speed LB inside as the more he gets pancaked the less effective he becomes.Again the limits to the defensive d/c are troublesome especially if you dont want to change your base formation to accommodate

So on the seldom times i inside blitz it usually means a Cov or combo LB for a "change around" from normal duties and against a Singleback Formation where the lack of a FB can help somewhat. Far more controllable to have a PRDT coming in at NT1 slot....If I want a change around from this PRNTs are AGL enough to play short mid zones (think Spread diamonds play)

Depends on which passrusher you want to unlock.

If you have only runDEs and want to unlock your passrushDT, then middle blitzes with MLB, FS and SS are a good option.
If you have a passrushDE, blitzing from the respective side are beneficial.

One thing to keep in mind that you always need to have 2 rushers.
For 4DL formations, it need to be at least two Dliner that rush the passer. You can see in a scrim what happens if you play 3 out of 4 Dliner in Zone.
For 3DL formations, one Dliner at least+the Blitzer.
