Tends to be what you want to stop outside runs are plays where your LBs are on man to man and the OLBs are outside or above the DEs as much as possible. In my limited experience. Blitzes are often times more harmful than helpful against the outside, but in lower leagues outside blitzes can sometimes kill an outside run in its tracks.
Probably best to wait for someone who actually knows what they are doing coaching to answer this though

Learn from your opponents. Watch their defensive playcalling when they're shutting down YOUR outside runs, and flatter them with imitation.

Your classics are 3-4 and 4-3 DE Flats, or LB Contain
Gotta be careful though, if they don't run outside both of those plays can leave u slacking. More so on the LB contain

They're are also a lot of blitzes with both OLB's blitzing, but same thing, can screw yourself if theyre not going outside
Pursuit is important. I also like Blitz Awareness on my blitzers. I do not blitz much after sophomore and only in certain situations during sophomore. The defense that works the best at stopping or at least slowing down outside runs is Cover 1 man, but builds could play a very important role in that.

I think that TE Smother is easier to run against but does a good job against TEs. But again I also think that has a lot to do with builds.
