Is there any consensus on when lead block aware fires over run block aware for an O lineman?

I understand lead block aware is more important for a FB, but what does it do for a lineman?

I'm guessing guard pulls and OT power tosses. Any other instances?

if the olineman pulls alot they need lead block awareness. Run block awareness really matters more on the inside/offtackle runs.

Yeah, I've always understood that inside the tackles = RBA and outside = LBA. But who knows, really?

It's literally this, if the player is coming from across field or inside - you need run blocking awareness to make the block, if the player is on the outside of the field on whatever side the ball is on, lead block.

You'd think it'd change depending on where the run is going, or the proximity of the block to the runner, but everything I've seen suggests it's just 'inside or out'

I can't be 100% on that, I've never done a min/max build to see what all blocks they are good at getting to.

What level ranges do you guys usually go with for each?

What about for fullbacks? Is it still run block awareness for inside runs? Or would it pretty much always be lead block awareness for them?

I had the same thought, but it seemed to be pretty much just inside and out.

I should have tested it more though.

my only FB is an utter failure, so don't look to me for that answer.

I have an FB on my team that is mostly lead block, I won't divulge his whole build, but he does well

Watch out for outside pitches, if you don't have enough run blocking the following LBs will sometimes just run right by the FB as he is aiming for a downfield safety.

I think it is easier to see inside blocks as you're running inside anyhow, so leaning toward lead blocking as a FB tends to be what I would think is best - but I have noticed some blockheaded plays like that with a lower run blocking awareness.

I've made several FBs for MVP HBs, and around 70 LBA and 50 RBA seems to do the trick. The hardest part is keeping up with their Sprinting.

Yeah, FB sprinting is so ridiculously costly, just taking it to 75 feels like as much of an investment as taking a HB to 100.

That all sounds good and simple.

But it really just depends if the particular player's action is defined as lead block or not.

Which I think is used any time a player is blocking and is assigned a location rather than a generic "find someone and run at them" block action.

everyone should really pay attention to this! he literally just told you what the code looks for. Find someone and run at them is one and go to a destination and find someone is another. Both are needed.

So what happens after initial block, run block awareness just takes over from that point as the player no longer has a zone assigned?
