I've seen that before, I believe it always resets to the 20 after a missed field goal, if they're inside that

NFL and College rules spot the ball at 20 if kick is missed from inside 20 yard line!

I'm not sure why either, logistically it doesn't even have a reason.
You could say it's a reward for a defensive stand, but a turnover on downs is also a stand and the ball is left where it happened.
You could say it's an incentive to go for it, but FGs that close are high % and the risk to lose all points is too great, so weak incentive.
You could say it's a way to give the offense some room to work with, but the same logic for turnover on downs kills that.

Maybe its a small reward for the team missing the field goal? any kickoff ending on the 20 is decent. Its definitely a Reward to the defense taking over even though the other team benefits a little

I thought, we used to be able to pick kick/punt strategies? I went to change mine to short offside and try to do more on special teams and I couldn't find the option anymore? I remember going for those offside kicks and getting them sometimes????

Nope only on missed field goal attempts, as Raid stated no very clear cut reasoning for why this occurs but this has been a part of all levels of Football for a very long time.
