I have only played a few seasons, so I'm not the best source of information. But it might be nice to have a list of skills to avoid for new players.

For starters I'm almost 100% positive Return awareness isn't working. I'm also confident strip technique either isn't coded or works on such a small scale it should be completely avoided. As far as abilities go, I'm not sold on chase down, I don't think I've seen it proc once. And based on my assessment of strip technique, I'm obviously including opportunist.

To start the list, avoid the following...

Skills:
- Return awareness
- Strip technique

Abilities:
-Chase down
-Opportunist

I do love this game and think there's serious potential if everything gets fixed. But a good way to lose new players is to keep open pit falls in basic player creation. I mean, if my first player was a strip causing, kickoff/punt returning CB I probably wouldn't still be playing.

I mean, even with all the skills working (they are), that would be a pretty awful build.

Of course it's not a viable build, but there should still be moments it shines, no?

Here's one example from today's game of 80 return awareness in all its glory.

Based on my 3 seasons of experience with a designated returner. I'm offering up the unsolicited advice to avoid investing in return awareness. I've probably watched at least 150 punt/kick returns with zero deviation.

That's what this thread is supposed to be about. Identifying less(potentially broken) important stats so newer players can catch up to the meta. Hopefully, if I'm dead wrong about anything, the veteran players will correct me.

As an argument for having a dedicated returner. I present this play. The reason you invest in a returner, the punt return touchdown.

However, I would like to note that I doubt return awareness was the reason it succeeded.

I was gone and am back, and while I agree return awareness is at the least unnecessary and probably outright useless, my experience is that Strip Tech does work. I put it on a CB and I get a lot more passes knocked loose and a few forced fumbles against receivers who likely haven't invested much in Carrying Grip, who are the players a CB usually tackles.

I never tried it on a non-CB player. I've tried to make LB's who cause fumbles, but I use Power Tackling for that. Strip Tech may well be insufficient to cause any fumbles when tackling HB's made with the Carrying Grip that any decent HB will have.
