I think you also get more "points" in the ladder ranking if you beat teams in the tier ahead, and lose more if you lose to those in the tier below. I think point differential and potentially some other stats play into the rating as well, but not 100%.

Perfect summation of the GLB2 experience. Which is why we played up 29 global spots to a 20-0 team and the #1 team in our league at 19-1 played 37 global spots down against a 10-10 team.
