I get it now I think, it's a lot easier than we've been making it out to be.

It's not about inside vs out, they are both active on all plays - they just are different awarenesses.

Run blocking awareness is knowing which guy is the one you are best suited to block for the HB, and generally realizing when a play is shifting and your 'best block' shifts. This stat makes you more aware of whom it is that you should be trying to get to. Also helps you realize when you won't make it to a block and check down to one you can to help as much as possible.

Lead blocking awareness is knowing the best way to get to that guy, whether it's taking a smart path around blockers, reacting to a shift that the HB makes to try and help you get to your blocker, or staying with a blocker when he is trying to get around you before contact.
It does everything pursuit does for a defender, but in terms of getting to the blocker instead of the ball carrier.

That's my take on the skills so far, seeing them in action. Has anyone ever tested them out to extremes to see how weird players react when they have 60 of one and 15 of the other?

I don't really see much use for Run Block awareness itself. I generally keep it fairly low. Lead Block awareness on the other hand seems to have its merit for taking somewhere (if not just for the sake of the pull specialist SA). 60 seems a bit much. The skill is cheap but its nice to squeeze as much as you can in some other areas.

See like in this play, it is the HB Wax's terrible run blocking awareness that has him run out of bounds before finally locating a player that he should block (though he chooses the wrong target due to his low awareness) And his even lower lead blocking awareness causes him to not only miss getting to the block in the first place, but also attempting to block in a lane the FB isn't even running in (though he just does it because his low lead blocking awareness makes him take a b-line for the block he wants with no consideration of where the defender or runner are moving to)

This is a pretty clear showing of a failing of both the skills back to back, but it proves nothing because both skills are abysmally low. I just think I've figured out from only raising one or the other the effects it has on improving the blocking paths after some trial and error on other players along the way. I'm going to set up an experiment for it after I get done testing this HB's build out.

Lead blocking is pretty much more for outside rushing, while run blocking is more for inside handoffs and off tackles

60 lead and 40 run is what I hover around. More often than not the FB makes the right read.

I remember someone taking lead block awareness to 90+ and said it was worse because the blocker would run downfield to block a player instead of blocking the defender right in front of him.

I personally believe that there is a hand-off between run block awareness and lead block awareness. Once the HB gets outside of the tackle or or around there, lead block awareness takes over. Before that point though, run block awareness is getting checked. Just a personal opinion on it though and a theory that I have had for a while. Could be completely wrong.
