I would assume the SS is supposed to have the TE (goes the wrong way), and the FS is supposed to have the HB (goes the wrong way). I know this is rookie, so stats are low, but this seems like they aren't even assigned to the jobs they are supposed to be.

Same formation, but a pass http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/440153/537942

SS covers the TE, and the FS starts to cover the HB until he stays in to block then goes to double team. (this is how is should work, but in the QB rush it bugs out)

Same formation, but a pass with the HB going out http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/440153/537988

TE stays in to block so the SS goes to find a double team, FS goes and covers the HB.

After watching the pass plays, I think it's just them reading pass so their assignments aren't "going out for a route" so they both look to double team a WR, then man aware kicks in late and they are late to the run.

If this is right, regardless of play call, defense is always "reading" pass first?

Run play up middle from same formation http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/440153/538061

SS and FS clearly make their assignment reads first...

I believe the system is always reading pass first. Other than zone, everything else is pass based. Dline is pass rushing till they see the run, blitzers same, man coverage is reading pass and which man to cover. Zone they head to zone while reading play.

This is why I believe zone is so good against the run.
