Here's my current understanding:
-- The Power Tackle roll affects your ability to make or break a tackle by slowing momentum--and will occasionally result in a fumble. Somewhere in there, the roll probably depends--at least in part--on the energy, morale, carry grip, and running style of the ball carrier (all else equal, powerbacks using power tactics are more likely to get jacked up by a quality roll).
-- Strip Tech roll takes place when a carrier is dragging a tackler, with each tick getting a re-roll. I'm assuming it's less reliant on morale and energy, but I could be way off.
My questions (someone out there may know...):
1. Does Strip Tech come into play at all when sacking a QB? Does it have *any* use if you're not gang-tackling or being dragged?
2. Would it be easier to get the Strip Tech roll to happen by having lower Tackle Tech and really high Conditioning and Tackle Grip?
3. Does Power Tackling come into play when sacking the QB?
4. Does the force fumble roll from Power Tackling take into consideration the carrier's energy/morale from before the tackle started (minus the Intimidation vs Toughness bit), or does that roll happen after a successful tackle roll has already taken place?

So many skills are needed defensively to get in position to have a tackle chance or coverage as you mentioned. Defenders need to do sooo much and naturally get taxed on their SP skills. Offensive players have the luxury of dictating what defenses do so their builds can be made to excel in single areas which puts defenders at a natural disadvantage.
