The biggest question here is what kind of runner is he?

Power Runners - 80+
Elusive Runners - 40+

It will vary greatly on how your HB performs from there. For my HB × Hammered × who has 100 Power Running/100 Conditioning he has 85 Carry Grip, Bronze Mr. Reliable and B4I and he still fumbles ~ 40 times a season in Vet. Power Runners need A LOT.

Yup, also depends on what their running style is. Slippery and Elusive settings make it a bit harder for a defender to line up an angle for a higher quality tackle roll, so they don't need as much. But Power or North South or whatever the +5 one is will be pretty easy for defenders to line up perfectly.

Based on my builds, it's Carry Grip / Balance.

The more Balance, the more you fight to stay up which increases fumble chances.

Morn doesn't fumble much but that's because she has 58 Carry Grip and 16 Balance.

Fumble rate of 1% and lost fumble below .5%.

Gold Mr. Reliable helps too.

My back up HB: http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/player/201688 is at even less but that's because he gets a lot more playing time against CPU teams than "good" teams. Only Silver Mr. Reliable on him.

You can lump power running in with balance and you are 100% correct. The longer a HB stays upright and fighting through tackles the higher the chance for fumbling. If you build a guy to fight through and power through defenders you will want more grip. If you build an elusive running (tactic) guy that runs out of bounds and avoids hits or goes down when a defender sneezed then less is needed.

http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/player/175408 (Combo)
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/player/175409 (Slippery)
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/player/175410 (Elusive)

As you can see the 1st one fumbles at a MUCH higher rate.

All 3 of these have the same exact carry grip, elusive rushing), and balance. All that's different is carrying style. They all still go out of bounds at a pretty solid rate, although Combo tends to turn up inside CB's if it thinks a window is there. There's a noticeable difference from watching them, and I send them on inside/off tackle runs enough that it's not just going out of bounds that's doing it.

Due to constantly trying to get around defenders, Slippery and Elusive make it harder for quality tackle rolls since they're keeping a minimum distance. Combo is more care free and can get lit the hell up on occasion.

If you build a power back, you can skimp on carrying grip if you drop the tactic down, but do you really want to lose that much Power Rushing?

Moving my tactics from power to combo has almost eliminated the fumbles. He's a scrim player and just doing that has gone from 2-4 per game to only 1 in the last 5 games. Also he is averaging more yards per carry.

Different opinion, but I don't think balance really plays a role in the staying up/fighting through a tackle scenario. If it does it's a very minor part of the equation.

To OP, could you open the build so we could look at it?

I'm curious: have you found that abilities like Stiff Arm might not go off as much while running in combo?
