We know that an ILB is very diferent from an OLB, basically: Run stopping X Blitzer or Coverage, i know that traits already do a good job, but this could allow to have a further distinction/build identity. It is exactly what happens with safeties, we have FS and SS, they get diferent caps/skill cost when being created, even with the same attributes, height and weight. This could be done to the LBs, ILBs would have more tackling skills, BRB...and OLBs pass rushing, coverage etc.

Also, we could add the Leadership skill to the ILBs, i think it would be a cool adition, and a good indirect nerf for ultra speed/cond HBs.

Of course, currently existing LBs would continue their carrers until retirement, but the LB position would no longer be avaiable to create. And ILBs should be able to play outise, vice versa.

*Note: Kinda out of topic, pass rush tech should be necessary for blitzers LBs, like affect the pathing or something, people just get 100 speed + first step.

Exactly. It is the same with defensive linemen. We have DTs and DEs. We should have ILBs and OLBs.

As a DC I move Lb's around a lot from different slots.
I have several different depth charts I switch through often, and literally every single LB on my roster plays ILB, and MLB at some point or another depending on what my opponents show me, and what I want to do, and based on what plays I want to use. Something like this would either require DC's to ignore Leadership on LB's, or severely restrict LB build types, or restrict defensive playcalling. I'm not in favor of any of them.

If you want to nerf HB's, fix your current builds.

The traits of blitzer, middle-man, coverage, kind of already addresses this, so you could end up with overpowered LBs

OLBs could still play on a ILB spot, just like FS and SS, or D-Line, yes it could hurt a alittle bit the build freedom, but positions have their roles, and these 2 have different objectives, its the coach job to find/hire players to the defense philosophy they want, and a diverse roster. Also, the changes on skill cost/cap wouldn't be so big that it would make impossible to build what you want. And having cheaper skill cost for mandatory skills would save some nice skill points.

Leadership idea is optional, not necessary for the separation. And it would be a cheap skill, 40-50 would be ok, but if the coach want the team to have better conditioning, the LB would get a high number. And about the HBs, you know that its very hard to build against them, non S*s just won't do the job, unless it builds against one specific tipe of HB, def needs too many skills. But i should gave this leadership idea in another topic.
