I'm from Seattle, for those that don't know.
The steady decline of NBA basketball has been pretty well-documented over the past 10 years. Since guys like Magic, Larry, MJ, JoeD, Hakeem, etc. have retired, no one has really stepped up to become the super stars that these guys were. Consumate professionals who were team players, leading teams to NBC championships, and being good role models and citizens for kids, while always respecting the game.
These kids these days, total joke. More interested in their next contract and pts per game than they are about winning. It's deplorable at best, that such a big institution like the NBA would be such a sub-standard product on the floor. I mean come on, LA losing by 40 in the clinching game for the Celts??? Losing by 40 in an NBA finals game?? Gimme a break.
The NBA is a joke, and last night just put the nail in the coffin for me. A team with 41 years of history was sold out by it's local politicians and state legislature, in a game of high stakes poker. Come to find out, Oklahoma was holding Quad Aces while the city of Seattle was playing 3/8 offsuit.
This whole time, I always knew in the back of my mind they (The sonics) would leave. Afterall, we are the city were Boeing was born, and our esteemed council let Boeing corporate go a few years back. How could they let the biggest regional employer move their corporate offices, then turn around and keep an NBA franchise in town?
However, i had held out hope that somehow, someway, something would happen where I would get to continue to watch "My Sonics" play pro basketball now and in the future. Call me hopeless, or better yet, a glutton for punishment.
Anyhow, I needed to rant. I never thought that this wold affect me so much. Afterall, it's just sports right?
