Is blitz awareness a bad thing on DTs? If you notice in the play below, the left DT starts to follow the HB from the start of the play. When the HB counters, the DT is caught up in the center blockin the NT.

So I created a rookie DT and put him at the DT position. He has zero investment in blitz awareness. He will always chase the QB in the back field and by the time the HB counters, he then realizes the HB has the ball and is there to tackle him.

Sometimes the DT will chase the QB as the HB runs right by him. Pick your poison.

Blitz Awareness is imperative on d-lineman. I've had low blitz awareness and high blitz awareness d-lineman, and I saw more results from the higher ones.

When it comes to defending the run, blitz aware is a good skill to have.
