90's damn I am old.. but yeah.. a stick maybe a big hit? That's a good stick? That always referred to a big hit, probably before the 90's lol Remember the Hit Stick on Madden or even College football?

But really it is when as a defender you prevent the ball carrier(or is it just a receiver?) from gaining any more yards(not allowing YACon).

Ball carrier in general. And yeah, it's a tackle that drops the ballcarrier immediately. You don't get dragged.
