Not very well at all, like CBomb said you'll underperform by quite a bit until you hit professional. The difference between rookie and sophomore is 45000 Skill Points and 3 Ability Points. so you'll always be that many points behind. No 20% discount will be able to make up that difference until professional, And also the Vets will no longer be gaining extra skill points so you won't be lagging behind anymore at that point and instead just making up ground.

Just find a rookie team for your S*, or sit on a CPU team and find a sophomore team during the off-season, you'll still have better games than you will against Sophomore Competition.

a good way to tell is by salary...

once a S* player is making as much as a regular player in the same position one tier up, they are about as good SP-wise... this happens around the j-man/pro level... until then, not really beneficial to have a younger S* unless it's a tremendous build.

See for yourself...

Rookie S* player (WR):

Sophomore team:

Sophomore players in same roll (WR):

All set to rotate frequently, so play time should be fairly even.

IMO I'd say a rookie S* is definitely competitive.

That rookie S* you posted is last in receiving yards out of the WR's. The only players with less receiving yards are the two HB's. One of the regular Wr's has nearly twice as many receiving yards as the S*. The S* has the lowest receptions/target rate, and has the most drops per target. His oe good game came against a roster that had rookies mixed in on defense, his second and third best game was against CPU's, other than that he has trouble breaking 35 yards and 2 receptions a game. At first I thought he might have had worse games at the beginning of the season which is why I looked through the game log, but he has really under-performed the entire season.

I'm not knocking you or your team, but it's highly suspect to say that WR is competitive, and it's misleading to pass it off as such when a rookie S* WR on a rookie team that is roughly 70/30 pass/run has stats like these. Basically double what your S* is doing on a sophomore team.

And he's not even the top receiver on the team.

From the standpoint of an agent looking for a team you won't enjoy watching your S* playing one tier up until professional. Sure if you're a team owner and are just looking for a way to sneak salary and develop an extra S* on the roster in the early tiers you probably don't care too much about individual performance and are probably more interested in just building chem and keeping him on the team instead of signing him once your team reaches prof. So I get that, but any agent looking for a spot for their S* should just keep looking or wait a season.

6th in targets/catches (rookie conditioning), yet 4th in yards and tied for 1st in TDs. All at half the salary.

Seems fine to me.

If they haven't been built yet and the S* points are available you could just build them experienced now and sign them to a CPU team or just catch them up in the off-season. Then they'll be soph next season.

Or are you just trying to save on salary?

You need to try to see through the eyes of the General Manager, the one who will be making these decisions.

There is a place for younger players on competitive teams but not younger superstars. One would only sign a younger player if they needed extra salary cap to sign a real superstar. A young superstar does not help with this as they would barely save you any salary cap or cost extra.

Good positions for younger players: Fullback, Punter, Kickoff specialist, kickoff returner and all core special teamers. These positions will see less than 20 snaps a game and can perform well enough allowing you to strengthen your starting roster.

You do not want any younger player getting a high volume of snaps. If you are the agent of the player it may be nice for you but no one cares about your player's production. Competitive teams will release anyone at anytime if they have a better option. All that matters in this game is managing the team salary cap and setting great schemes. The individual agent and his player are insignificant.

This is the same reason everyone should avoid *ANY* trait that increases salary cap when creating your player. The only time I would ever sign a player with a +% salary cap modifier would be a dominant superstar. Every player with a % modifier reduces my ability to stack real superstars. There are many great traits that have no salary cap modifier.
