I understand that its mostly done to manage the cap.
At Vet you can have 2 kickers, your KO guy can be a Sophomore, and still get decent TB numbers, while your FG guy can be Vet and you can save some cap space.

But running through some S*K builds on the Scout Tools virtual player builder it seems like some very nice looking K's can be built with S* and the hit to the cap isn't that much. Even when putting points into KO power you can still hit higher numbers for Kick Accuracy, Kick Consistency, and FG Power than you can with a non S* who's just focused on being a FG kicker while still achieving 80 KO power.

So I ask, why aren't there more S* Kickers? Why are no new teams utilizing them? Especially considering the large gulf between S* and non S* kickers at the seasoned and sophomore level when non S* Kickers pretty much equate to an unfair coin toss for any FG distance?

Just like in real football, special teams players just aren't on the field for as many plays as offensive and defensive players, they don't do as much so they aren't as valuable.

I can see an argument against that for kickers specifically in GLB2 if 100% rushing teams continues to be a thing, your morale gets punished so hard by their blockers on special teams that it could be worth an over the top salary cap investment to get more touchbacks.

I made one this season actually... I had the same idea with the scout tool as you and thought, "well, fuck it, let's see what I can come up with".

You answered your own question. It is cheaper and better to have 2 kickers than 1 superstar kicker.

I have a s* K but I am still not convinced it has enough value but 50 point s*'s dont exactly offer the greatest choices anyhow.

It's not better, but it's definitely significantly cheaper.

I dont believe you can make a super star kicker better at kick offs and FGs than specialized kick off and FG non superstars.

Would strongly disagree with you on this one - I don't even think it's close. Getting a S* Kicker to 100 kickoff power costs 49k SP. A S* kicker is like having an extra 55K SP, not including caps. And that doesn't count the benefit in reduced skill cost across the board, and caps. So a S* kicker is clearly better than two non-S* kickers.

Still don't think it's worth it though because of the salary costs.

EDIT: Noticed a mistake in my calc - 49K is superstar-value so it's actually a cost of 59K. Still - only 4K more, and then the heart investment, consistency investment, conditioning, etc. all double up for immense value.

Not worth the salary investment. Kicking is way too inconsistent even with a S*. Better to devote the salary elsewhere where you can depend on more consistent production.

Much cheaper to just employ a pure FG and pure kickoff specialist, especially because you can have kickoff specialists around the sophomore-journey level and just cycle them.

What they should have done was bump FG accuracy and limit each team to 1 kicker. This would have killed the kickoff specialist obligation and made S* Kickers more valuable. Probably too late now though.

While teams are allowed 2 Ks, S* Ks make zero sense. Would rather have a S* P before a K.
