New season, new thread.

Any guesses as to a Top 5 next season?

I'm going with the following:

1) Bronx Bombers - to repeat. Have a few roster changes but should hopefully be improvements.
2) Central Falcons - Limited to no roster changes, finished 5th last season - they have potential to move up
3) DD - Picked up arguably the best blitzer at his level - otherwise, minimal changes. Really was flipping between the top 3 here - I think they are clearly the best teams.
4) LogZilla - Xars is Xars. Consistently Top 5 in ladder. The most cohesively built unit in the game, that's for sure.
5) Hawaii Bulls - Of all the new Vet teams, I think they have the best chance of making a splash in the top 5... although, to be honest, I think we'll see a lot of the older Vet teams be more successful this season.

Exclusions:

Erkner Razorbacks - If Duro was active I'd probably slot them in at 3 or 4... it doesn't look good that they haven't signed any of their D though (except the S* SS. If Duro doesn't come back I don't think this team is competitive defensively.
Blood, Sweat & Beers - The team hit a rut this season - missed out on a league trophy for the first time, and barely scraped a ladder trophy at #5. I think they're a good team - but the plethora of agents building players on this team makes it hard for them to be successful as builds become more and more important (seriously - something needs to be done about the advantage of one- or two-agent teams).
Djibouti Assassins - If Tachylon was around another season I'd slot them in at 2 or 3 I think. Given that they will have to replace one of the best HBs in the game, and face the chem hit again, I'm going to slot them just outside the top 5.
Whoville Whos - Replacing way too many players this season.
MEM - They have the tools to be a top 5 time - but I'm not sure if they have the motivation. bueno essentially said on the J-Man thread that he's more or less quit the game. He wasn't coordinating before, but obviously is a big piece of the puzzle for this team.
Freakville - Until about two weeks ago you could argue this was the best team in the tier moving up. A couple of puzzling losses against Missingno though makes me hesitant to predict a Top 5 here.

Hostile will be right in the mix above.

Great catch. Forgot Hostile.

No surprise about GA... the team last season was not the same team. Didn't expect them to go another round to be honest.

Except we have to play DD twice now, and for some reason we throw them gifts all day (9 pics in 2 games?). Maybe I'll just dial up some trips counters against em

Haha, please do

I wasn't very happy when I realized you were in my division now, that 3-4 blitz is very challenging to beat.

I run the 3WR set.

Can I run Trips Counters?

Meh, we've done it before and finished 4th. I think the bigger concern is the ridic difficult Hydrogen League.

S12 Hydrogen was the hardest league ever imo. I think S14 is looking to blow it away. Will be tough to even make the playoffs.

Hydrogen looks like the scariest Vet league. Gryphon Beta has to be the hardest division by far. BSB, Michigan, DD, and Hostile... and at least two of them are missing the playoffs...

I think you may be overthinking the difficulty of Hydrogen next season.

DA is replacing is best offensive weapon and won't come close to picking up a RB on his level.
Madison is replacing ~10 players off a 9 loss team.
Music City Miracle, don't know much about them but they didn't finish with a stellar record

Whoville is replacing over half their roster.
Bronx - Will be tough as ever

MEM - Not even sure if these guys are still trying anymore
Green Bay - Bhall is inactive and that team wasn't very good last season. Whether due to talent or lack of cares, not for sure.
Logzilla - potential top 5 team
San Antonio - Looks to be done, owner inactive nearly entire roster about to expire on contracts

Good point. I think it's clearly harder than Centaur which looks like a Hawaii vs Central vs AK matchup there.

Gryphon does look pretty scary overall. But if Erkner is gone then the league weakens quite significantly.

Maybe. DA has had to replace key pieces before, and they won the league last season. Madison might continue to slide, but they usually put up a fight.

Whoville has replaced over half their roster before and finished 4th in ladder that season.

If MEM phones it in or folds, then that would impact the difficulty quite a bit imo. I don't think Green Bay is that important to the difficulty of the league.

what are we? chopped liver?

You're a moron if you don't at least put us in the conversation

Last season was the first Madison didn't finish inside the top 5 in Vet since season 7... which was the longest streak in VET. S13 was a bad season... no doubt about it. We had some mediocre builds, some bad gameplans, a few crazy upsets, and a front-loaded schedule against 100 chem previously-pro teams (we would have absolutely beat Bronx in that sim with 100 chem team like them). The combination pushed us to 9 losses... it happens.

Since we joined vet, we have been the most consistent team in it. If Dynasty rankings went back to the beginning of time, we would probably be #1.

previous seasons VET RANKS...

S12 - 2nd
S11 - 4th
S10 - 2nd
S9 - 2nd
S8 - 4th

that said, I do think Central and Bronx will be top 5 mainstays until they rebuild or reset, due to minimal turnover and a solid defensive and offensive gameplan...

my prediction next seasons top 5 is Central and Bronx.... then 3 of the following (I have them all about on the same level)... DA (picked it up 2nd half of last season), DD (like their defensive turnovers, don't fully trust their O), Madison, Hawaii (they know what Vet is all about), Logzilla, MEM.

If I had a gun pointed at me, I'd say Bronx #1, Central #2, DA #3, Madison #4, Hawaii #5
