I've already mentioned the passing plays I believe are overpowered in my rookie spam guide. Now, based on Rob's post somewhere else, I wanted to post a little data about some of the running plays that were spammed this season.

This is season 13 data - including yesterdays games.

Big I Counter Sweep Left:
Rookie: 5.69 on 964
Soph: 6.29 on 156
Seas: 5.84 on 329
Jour: 10.77 ypa on 802 times
Pro: 14.44 ypa on 493 times
Vet: 8.25 ypa on 732

Trips QB Rollout Strong
Rookie: 12.49 on 1348
soph: 13.20 on 215
seas: 6.55 on 190
jour: 12.50 on 280
pro: 11.66 on 235
vet: 14.24 on 34

Trips HB Counter Strong
Rookie: 8.25 on 1415
soph: 8.58 on 593
seas: 8.56 on 832
jour: 8.36 on 967
pro: 12.88 on 320
vet: 11.26 on 913

It seems clear something has gone wrong on defense with the D getting fooled by counters. Why are the defenders able to ignore their blitz path and start freestyling in a circle?

What other running plays do you think are overpowered?

The trips data can be somewhat off due to people running over will blitz and letting folks run to the strong side for huge gains. So I wouldn't completely say it's broken. A lot of DC's just spam the same defensive play due to it's effectiveness on 3 WR pass plays.

this. but tx steve is right that blitzers are getting fooled by counters instead of blitzing their gap like they should. wonder if its due to them ignoring blitz awareness though?

I think its a blitz awareness issue. Most blitzers are made to blitz, not pay attention to runs (so it appears anyway).

I may be wrong, but I don't believe any are over powered. They can all be stopped fairly easily if thats what you decide to game plan for. They get very effective for balanced teams which is exactly how it should be. Plus, if you really want to slow down both passing and run without shutting down just 1 then run Zone. It's effective against both, but not great at either.

None of these plays are overpowered, good teams stop them. I think it's pretty laughable you're making calls on the current sim when the only experience you've had with the game in the past few seasons has been a CPU challenge.

My problem with this thinking is that is goes back to the old QB rollout arguments by some folks: "it's easy to stop..blah blah blah".

It's not just an Over Will thing. SB Trips Strong dominated against the top 14 most used calls against it.
Here's how it fared against the top 14 most used defensive calls:

Nickel 3-3-5 Over Will Mike Blitz: 16.76
Nickel 3-3-5 Man Base: 9.70
Nickel Storm Brave: 18.34
Nickel 3-3-5 MLB Cloud: 15.60
Nickel Man DE Flats: 9.08
5-2 Cover 1 Man Under: 9.24
Nickel 3-3-5 Cover 1 Man Under: 12.67
Quarter 2 Man Press: 9.50
Nickel Man Base Medium: 14.06
Nickel Cover 1 LB Dogs: 24.63
Dime 2 Man Under: 9.93
Nickel 3-3-5 Man LB Contain: 12.13
Nickel 3-3-5 2 Man Under: 10.62
3-4 OLB Blitz: 15.45

your problem must be with the actual data...from the actual games...that stobie gathers every day --- because it is the data that says the plays are overpowered....not me.

The only team you're affiliated with gave up under 5 ypc vs. Big I counter sweep to the top run teams in the game, and DA just held MEM to 3.1ypc against trips counter strong.

I don't have time to gather data from you do. I make calls based on playing the game like the rest of the real user-base does.

Let's make a comparison. Thanks to Stobie's forethought we are able to go back and look at historical stats from season 9.

Season 9 GL QB Rollout Strong:
rookie: 11.52 on 4834
soph: 8.14 on 595
seas: 10.73 on 2033
jour: 12.52 on 1556
pro: 9.73 on 181
vet: 9.75 on 618

Pretty much right in line with what we are seeing with some of the running plays here in season 13...

I'm not affiliated with any team (lol coaching position).

You don't believe my opinion is valid....no problem. Argue with Rob.

I ran counters with every team I OC'ed this season. I think they were too strong. Defenders act stupid. At minimum, blitzers should not do stupid stuff like this:

http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/216501/1758311 - LOLB
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/215402/1627299 - CB4

Robs team stopped the play you're bitching about for 3.1ypc without any superstars on defense against a team with a full S* offensive line. I don't think I need to argue anything, he stopped his own argument.

It's not a Blitz Awareness issue.

CB3 is blitzing here:
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/224565/1886920

He's got 72 blitz awareness, and the above happened the entire game.
