How are they all related in the roll process? How many separate rolls are there and what are involved?

I'm assuming speed and power go into the make-tackle roll, as Power Tackling's description alludes, but where does Tackling Grip come in? Is it a "second chance" if your Power Tackling isn't high enough to slow the rusher down enough?

Does Tackle Technique come into play before or after Power Tackle?

Very good questions. Back in GLB1 Bort used to do weekly Q&A threads where he'd divulge some extra info about what goes into certain rolls when. As far as I know that's never happened in GLB2 before.

You're about right on tackling grip, it's when you've initiated the tackle, and haven't brought down the ball carrier yet.
No clue about Tackling Tech, I believe it's influenced in all of the different tackle rolls, but that's just my belief.

Here's my opinion.

Tackling tech influences your initial tackle roll, and if it is not high enough and the ballcarrier has high enough elusive running/power running/balance, the defender just misses the tackle completely without even getting a power roll. For tackling elusive backs pursuit might play some sort of roll based off description. If you pass the initial roll, you latch on to the back and if your power tackling is high enough you start to slow him down and probably bring him down immediately if he has little power running. If he has very high power running, your grip comes into play, the higher the grip the longer you stay on to slow him down before he breaks free. My 2 cents.

Tech is the quality of the tackle. The lower the quality the more likely it is to be broken.

Power is how hard you hit when you do tackle. The harder you hit the less likely they are to fight for extra yards before going down, and you have a chance to pop the ball loose.

Strip Tech is basically a separate skill that happens alongside a tackle where your defender attempts to rip, or punch the ball out during the tackle.

Grip is how long you are able to hold on after failing the initial tackle roll. If your initial grip roll isn't high enough you will fall to the ground after failing an initial tackle. You do get additional attempts to bring the ball carrier down while being dragged, and you do also get additional opportunities to strip while being dragged.

However in order of importance with the current meta-game its Tech-Power-Grip-Strip.
And Power seems to be more effective at forcing fumbles than strip.

My opinion:

Tech - primary tackling skill.
Power - primarily influences things like getting sticks, resisting power running and not giving up YACon.
Strip - primarily influences causing fumbles at all parts of a tackle interaction.
Grip - primarily influences if you maintain a tackle after losing a power roll, and also if you can hold on when being dragged.

As such, I would say tech is the most important skill by far. Power isn't as important as most people seem to think it is, especially when it comes to fumbles. Strip is a luxury, but you could totally avoid it. Grip should be considered as an alternate to power - I don't think you need a lot of both at the same time.

Pursuit is mandatory for elusive rushers. I've had defenders with similar tackling tech, and the ones with higher pursuit did noticeably better against elusive backs.
