I think a S*SS is a necessity... after that, I'm not sure whats best. I like a S*DT as a possible second, but on the third I'm undecided. When it comes to LB's, I almost think a pass coverage or middle might be a waste since you have the SS, and from what I can tell it seems like you can decent pass rush from a normal blitzer without using a S*ROLB. Is that the case, then what? A S*DE? S*FS? Another S*DT? Whats the benefit/style of each? What would you all recommend?

DE = Useless. Been there, done that.

SS, LB, and probably a CB. CB would have elite speed to match up with superstar receivers, and probably a bit of investment in run defense.

LB would probably be best as a Coverage hybrid, with good run stopping and tackling abilities.

Could you expand on why the S* DE was useless?

From my experience I prefer SS > LB/CB > DE > FS > DT

DT's make very little impact for the cost of their superstar salary when compared to other positions. It also depends on your playcalling style and the rest of your roster makeup. I'm sure others would arrange the priorities differently.

You could even make the argument of S* CB's becoming more important to match up with these pass heavy offenses.

Here's a S* CB in a pass heavy tier: http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/player/122945
He has had an incredible season.

Well there goes my theory that Heart matters when defending a Pass O.

My 3 would be:

Tier 1 - DT - a Peter Griffin build - where you are a Combo Pass Rusher and Run Defender. The 80/80/80/80 build. This allows you to run a team with just 2 DTs - the other being a pure Run DT. Allows you to play a 4man front for Run D and 3man fronts for Pass. The real benefit is against Balanced teams as you'll be able to defend the Run and Pass well with one player on the field all game.

Tier 2 - DE - Same as the DT above. From a team roster management view, instead of having 4 DEs (2 Run & 2 Pass), you can go with 3 - the S* and the a Run DE and a Pass DE. Again, you'll use 4man fronts against Runs and 3man fronts against Pass, plus be able to handle balanced teams well.

Tier 3 - LB - So many options for excellent combos.

Combo SS

Coverage/run stopper LB

Combo DT(max pass rush tech, break run block and footwork...gold spin cycle and shed block)

I dont think this is necessarily asking for one from each tier in defense. There fore I would go

SS, LB, CB in the current meta. Get as much pass stopping in there as possible

I would love to be able to do some super versatile builds.

S* SS has a ton of appeal, but I'm leaning more towards S* FS. There's things I really want that position to do, that I haven't had on any of my rosters yet.

I'm thinking either S*'s of FS, CB, and LB. Or, S*'s of FS, CB, and SS.

So here is my question then, which S* should I create DT, C, G, or OT?

Depends on the offense. Passing O? Then go with a S* DT. Balanced O? I think I'd go with a S* RT, you want to slow down the Spin Cycles opposite blitzing linebackers, while still being able to run block. Rushing O? Not my area of expertise, I can only guess.

For Rushing O, you don't need S* OL, so I would go DT.
