Play Diversity Bonus
To help encourage more diverse play calling on offense, we are adding a play diversity bonus. The more varied plays you run in a game, the larger the bonus grows.



- Updated player AI on outside coverage guys to play contain better (don't let the play get outside them) when reading outside run, instead of blitzing at the play instantly
- For open field blocking interactions only: Increased chance of breaking blocks by a small amount, and slightly increased swim distance when winning break block rolls
- Man and underneath zone pass defenders are now more willing to play a smaller cushion or even underneath based on the amount of nearby over the top help (improves bracketing when double teams happen)
- ELO K value bumped up a bit again

1. The play diversity change was a good way to do it. You didn't punish the 1 dimensional offenses so no one should have the excuse of resetting from this change. It'll be interesting to see how much of a bonus it is.

2. Hopefully the outside contain doesn't result into more defenders waiting until the RB is on top of them to react. That's my biggest complaint with the current contain system. If it delays the defenders anymore I may stroke out.

3. My biggest question with the open field blocking change is Does the swim move change effect all defenders or just the ones downfield?

4. Absolutely love the pass defense changes, always very aggravating when a noodle arm QB could just underthrow passes all day. (Looking at you Richmond Raiders )

5. If we are getting a tier reset on ELO, guess I don't understand the reason to bump the k value. Should make for a very entertaining season at rookie though.

a total reset to ELo would be a giant mistake...

we just got tossed into a division with logzilla who is a top 5ish team, and because they are 15 right now, a loss to them early would probably drop us to something like #5 from #1

ELO/K need to be modded, but not reset...

There really wasn't much special contain logic until now tbh. It was mainly just "don't try to smash through the line if there's guys in the way" and "try not to run into blockers." Everybody outside reacted to basically blitz right at the ball as soon as they read the play, which often resulted in them running inside into blockers and taking themselves out of the play. If they were standing around, it's because they didn't make the read very quickly. If you want instant reaction attacking the play every time, you should call blitzes.

There are quite a few replays showing defenders on the side the rush is happening where they just backpedal the entire time until the RB gets on top of them. However, you never see defenders on the opposite side of the field taking that long to read the play.

The FS on the opposite side of the ball reads it at about tick 30 even with the play going the other way. The SS looks like he reads it but stays still, he is mimicking the RB. When the RB gets hit and knocked backwards the SS mirrors his position on the field. Saying this, it may be irrelevant with the new changes.

EDIT: The one thing all these defenders in the Run Reaction thread have in common is that they are in Zone Coverage.

holy crap - the tears are ridiculous diddy. you've been legitimately one of the best teams for 3 seasons....you're going to be one of the best this season -- you're the FAVORITE to win #1 no matter the changes. stop crying - you are embarrassing yourself.

There is a genuine fear though -- I'm afraid you're going to have a heart attack this season...

this issue aside, I have said multiple times on various issues I am ALWAYS opposed to quick-fix patch-jobs, no matter what it involved... it's like throwing duct tape on a leaky pipe. A reset is the definition of a lazy fix... ELO/K need an overhaul.

Last season the lazy fix was removing outside runs from goalline... I'm starting to notice a trend

Hm, I'll be on the lookout for that. Almost looks like he's in spy mode. Is it always deep zone guys or does it require them to be in the endzone like that?

Like you said though, it might be moot with the new version, I dunno. I haven't seen anything like it in tests I ran recently.

I don't see it as a quick fix.

It has been a problem that we've been looking at for 10 seasons.

It has been a problem that was studied extensively in season 10 and season 9.

We got a great test run in rookie this season - and the higher k value made every game incredibly important -- and very exciting - and the game very fun.


Depending on the specifics of the partial reset -- it is possible that more k value is unneeded...but ladder play has been so boring - more volatility is better than none at this point.

Didn't it suck that even like half way through the season -- even if the stunners started losing games...you had no chance to catch us? That just isn't fun....and it isn't fair.

2) Bort: does conditioning (and energy level) affect QB speed and QB fumble chance when QB runs are spammed?

the thing your missing is that ladder games will have LESS meaning end of season... if I'm up a game or two on someone passing me in ladder, knowing the result this season will have zero effect on the following season, I will probably tank games and just try stuff out, which affects competitiveness. There has to be some kind of season-to-season meaning, ESPECIALLY in vet, otherwise there will be more team resets/non-renewals. Personally, I will have less motivation in the future to career boost a good team/player when I can just reset instead if this reset is a seasonal thing.

I actually think we were relatively close to Minn to end the season... cold have maybe caught you with a diff championship result and one or two more ladder losses by you

You are grasping at straws, we just saw what happened in rookie with the end of the season and how important those games are.

Does QB low energy affect more than just pocket movement? Does it also affect things like throwing accuracy and power?

Love an elo reset. Was leaning towards partial until this rookie season happened. Full elo reset was too much fun. My rookie team finished 9th, even though at our worst spot during the season we were around 30th (7 or 8 games in), being able to claw our way back up near the top of the ladder was fun.
