Some big games this week and some excitement in some of the games where I didn't quite expect it... Here are the Alpha scores and highlights.

Alpha Conference Scores:

Paris Penguins 38 West Yorkshire Bling 31 (OT)
Looking down the box score, you will see this one was about as even as they come. The difference at the end of the day was the Penguins' ability to run the ball effectively. Ahmad Muhammad ran the ball 29 times for 146 yards for Paris. The Bling tied the game with 1:12 to play in regulation with this pass from Kennedy McClane to J.C. Shockey and sent it to overtime.

It was Shane Parkhurst, Muhammad's relief, that broke in for the game-winning score in the extra period.

Ljublana Chamois Scabs 16 Whitechapel Rippers 35
The Rippers D held the Scabs to field goals twice in the first half after Ljublana had gotten 1st and goal inside the 10. Answering field goals with touchdowns, Whitechapel cruised to yet another victory, keeping their perfect season alive. 4 of Whitechapel's 5 touchdowns came on the ground, starting with this run by Poulakis Jr. to cap their opening drive.

Berlin Blitzkrieg 0 Scotland Celtics 31
The Celtics smothered the Blitzkrieg offense, allowing just 52 yards rushing and keeping their quarterbacks under a 50% clip for the game. Berlin was blanked while Scotland's balanced offensive attack scored 4 touchdowns, 2 in the air and 2 on the ground. McSheffey and Hanel carried them home to close this one out as the two backs combined for 194 yards. The most exciting play of the day was this breakaway by receiver Lester Brigg in the first quarter as he torched the Blitzkrieg secondary for a score.

Barcelona Bulls 33 Zurich Gnomes 27
After losing last week's shoot-out with rival Madrid, the Bulls bounce back to outlast the Gnomes this week. The two teams combined for nearly 800 yards of total offense and six touchdowns in this high-scoring affair. The Bulls got on the board early with this kickoff returned for 95 yards by Velvet Jonez.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9157613
This 65 yard play from Machine to Boerger in the fourth quarter put Barcelona up 9 with under 5 minutes to play.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9162289

Tilburg Fighters 3 Amsterdam Fire 63
Amsterdam was simply too much for the host Fighters in this game. Between 6 rushing touchdowns and intercepting Tilburg's Goesinya 5 times, the Fire all but extinguished any Tilburg playoff hopes. Safety Trenton Samuel picked off this pass early in the second quarter, taking it all the way to the house for a score.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9163464

Judah Lions 14 Madrid Hares 31
Madrid isn't going to go down easy as they win their third straight and make a push for one of the playoff spots in the Alpha. The Hares' backs were devastating, going for over 300 yards on the day, and quarterback Czar Lazar was efficient completing 71% of his passes for 101 yards and this score to close out the first quarter.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9163166

Massillon Grizzlies 77 Cherry Valley Wizards 0
Obie Da'Tiger led the way for the Grizzlies as they showed the Wizards no mercy in Massillon. He threw for 266 yards and 5 touchdowns. He got help from his receiver Kev-Dawg Gordon on this play where he turned a 11 yard completion into a 69 yard touchdown.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9164024

Rotterdam Harbourmasters 6 Liverpool Scousers 10
The game of the day in the Alpha was Rotterdam hosting the Scousers of Liverpool. Rotterdam led 6-0 going into the fourth quarter, but the Scousers outscored them 10 to nothing in the final frame to upset the Harbourmasters at home and make the case that they are indeed the hottest team in the conference right now. The Scousers did it on defense, standing firm in the red zone in the first half. They stonewalled the Harbourmasters each time they were in striking distance, forcing them to take 3 instead of 6. The last time the defense held them out from inside the 3 on 3rd and goal. Given the opportunities, the offense finally took advantage 2 minutes into the fourth quarter with this touchdown pass from Tarkington to Franklin, which gave them a 7-6 edge after the extra point.

Thought there was some excitement in Alpha this week, just check out the week in Zeta.

Gibraltar Wild Monkeys 23 Bay Area Invaders 28
A close game to the end, the Invaders sneak out of Gibraltar with a win. After each team weathered the others' scoring outbursts, it was this run by Mister Daylight that set up Tony Scorp's game-winning dive into the endzone.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9162217

Downey Vikings 3 Italian Stallions 80
Downey's slim playoff hopes died today at the hands of the Stallions and an 80 point offensive explosion. Stallions' cornerback Indiana Jones had two interceptions on the day and returned this one for a score in the first quarter to give the Stallions a 3 touchdown lead.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9157816

Munich Maulers 41 Copenhagen Razorbacks 7
The Maulers handled Copenhagen easily as they contend for one of the playoff spots in the Zeta. Already with a 27 point lead, the Maulers' Shad Liggit hits Andrew Mizzi late in the third quarter for a 66 yard touchdown pass.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9166340

Eindhoven Breakers 0 Brighton Bears 34
The Bears win easily again, staking a solid claim to the #2 spot in the Zeta. Flex EZ had another big day throwing for 220 yards and this score in the first quarter.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9157818

Liege Red Roosters 0 Ironton Tanks 79
Any lingering post-season hopes for the Roosters were squelched today as they were run over by the Tanks. Jason Dean ran for 246 yards and 5 touchdowns on only 21 carries. His first score came on this run from his own 20 yard line.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9164367

Hamburg Parrots 3 Helsinki Hammers 34
Helsinki's ground game didn't miss a beat today as they fight to hang on to that final playoff spot over the Maulers. Halfback Bo Miles eclipsed the 100 yard mark for the second straight game. Ima Rhino also pitched in rushing for two scores. This one came in the fourth quarter.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9166413

There were two big games this week with playoff ramifications in the Zeta Conference, and both lived up to the hype. We'll start with Chelsea and Rockaway.

Rockaway Knights 20 Chelsea Cardinals 27
Rockaway went to the air in their attempt to hold off the visiting Cardinals. Quarterback Golden Accuracy went 20 for 38 for 267 yards and 2 touchdowns. This pass from Accuracy to Roscoe Koffman late in the 3rd quarter cut the Chelsea lead to 8.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9160261

The Cardinals would answer back on their next possession with this run by Disco Dawson.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9160746

Disco danced for a 147 total yards and 2 touchdowns on the day. Two interceptions by Accuracy made it harder on the Knights. This pick by Stephen Woodson came at a bad time for Rockaway as they were trying to close the gap late. Rockaway did manage to get the ball again and Accuracy hit Cabin HuaKuy for this long touchdown play in the fourth quarter, but it would be too late.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9161904

One of the biggest stories on the Cardinals is the emergence of quarterback Dave Rosenbaum. He completed 82% of his passes (88% on third down) and tossed two touchdowns, giving him 15 on the season, while throwing no interceptions. This pass to Paul Hart in the first quarter was Hart's 11th on the season and marked his third straight game with a touchdown reception.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9157583

The win moves the Cardinals even with the Knights and Bulls in the Zeta conference standings.

Camelot Kings 26 Rome Bulls 24
After being held in check last week by a stifling Brighton defense, the Kings' running Pikes looked like their selves again this week against the Bulls. Wasting little time, GivinUTha Pike got in the endzone early on this play midway through the first quarter. He was well on his way to a 130 total yard performance.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9157719

Just 4 minutes later, the Bulls answered back with a big play. B.R. West, under pressure, finds Nicholas Wagner over the top for this 45 yard touchdown play.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9158000

Speed Pike, who also broke the century mark in rushing on the day, broke the tie with a touchdown run of his own soon after.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9158678

Much of the game thereafter was like this, two heavyweights trading blows. The running attack of the Kings was met shot for shot by a terrific performance from Bulls QB B.R. West. His final tally included 221 yards, 3 touchdowns, and no interceptions. With 1:14 to play, West found Ninjinsu on this play to give the Bulls a 2 point lead.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9161472

With about a minute to play, the Camelot quarterback Tanneyhill led a drive of his own. This play on fourth and less than a yard kept the drive alive, and allowed Truffle Bluffer to kick the game winning field goal with just 9 seconds remaining on the clock.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9161656

The Kings are tied with Brighton for the #2 spot in the conference standings.

That does it for a great week with some great games. The playoff picture is starting to get interesting now, and we have some big games coming up at the end of the season, including the Kings and Bears squaring off in a couple weeks (4 days).

I'd like the wrap ups more if the Breakers were doing a little better......but I look forward to reading 'em next season, after we've gotten through some growing pains. Thanks for taking the time to write these up every game, Cali.
