Season: 61-11
Well, last week was a hell of a down week for me. Worst week in 5 attempts.
Thanks to those of you who sent me into depression over this terrible performance. But let's see what this week has in store.
Game of the Week
Transylvania Bloodsuckers at South Yorkshire Stars
Well, when it's week 11, and you have two teams facing off on a a combined 19-game winning streak, how can it not be GotW? I'll try my best to not let the analysis come off as biased. Both teams are having phenomenal seasons. Both teams are very possible candidates for the conference championship. However, i feel SoYo has the edge. Both defenses have been lights out, but the 'Suckers defense has only posted 3 shutouts (2 of them to teams with 1 or fewer wins) and have shown much more vulnerability. Offensively, it seems to run about parallel as the Defensive comparison. "Suckers have been scoring hella points in many decisive victories, but it hasn't been to the degree of the SoYo attack.
All in all, this could be the best regular-season game of the year as far as top-tier teams go. If there's any team likely to end SoYo's chance at an undefeated regular season, the Bloodsuckers are the best of those chances. No doubt about it. I expect this to be the closest SoYo game in quite a while, but I must admit... I also think this is going to be the first time the Bloodsuckers taste defeat since their week one slip against Amsterdam.
Prediction:
SoYo: 38
Tran: 20
Spotlight Game!
Belfast Mafia at Grim Reapers
Any other week, this would be a lock for GotW. However, just because the above-mentioned game is going on doesn't mean this game is going to be pulling punches. This one is almost even across the board. Two very capable teams coming off disappointing losses in week 10. Both will be looking to redeem themselves this go-round. In the end I feel like the matchups favor belfast too much to ignore. The Reapers are prone to proving me wrong, so it is a high possibility. But there's too much skill disparity between the two defenses for me to justify picking the "upset(on paper)" here.
Prediction: Belfast by 6.
Kilkenny Cannibals at Basin City Blues
The BCB Express is ready to start the ball rollin again after their loss to the Bloodsuckers last week. The air game is ready to go and is proving to be a very capable weapon. The overlooked stat is the BCB's defense had a 6-game stretch leading in to the 'Suckers game where they had allowed a total of 16 points. They are more than just offense, folks. They are a team.
The Cannibals, on the other hand, are coming off a HUGE win last week they are hoping to build momentum off of to keep the trends moving. Their playoff hopes seem all but nonexistent at this point, but they are showing they are fighting to the end. No easy buckets here. But in the end, I think determination alone won't be enough to overcome the challenge here.
Prediction: BCB by 20.
Ithaca Space Munkees at Crimson and Cream Sooner Machine
Well. Someone has to win. In a battle of winless teams such as this it really just is a pride thing by this point. I would consider this the Relegation Bowl if such a thing were possible from this league because it is likely this is both teams' last chance to win a game unless some big changes go down. Both teams' morales must be shot to hell. Despite the munkees only scoring 7 points on the season, I think they can win this one if they actually use a decent gameplan. Conversely, CCSM can say the same thing...
Prediction: Ithaca by 10
Wrexham Maelor Brionnfhionn at Vatra Dornei Wraiths
This one could be a pretty hefty scuffle, as well. Both teams are scraping to keep playoff hope alive. I don't have a ton to say about this game other than I think it should be a hell of one. Both teams have active owners who seem to be very interested in the team's future. This speaks a lot for next season and the seasons to come more than it does for this one.
Prediction: Wrexham by 4.
Spotlight Game!
St. Louis Storm at Warsaw Knuckleheads
So many great matchups this week! The Storm have found themselves bouncing back quite nicely since the SoYo loss. They have managed to win 4 straight and are looking and searching for the 5th. However, to match, Warsaw is running a 6-game streak of their own following their Bloodsucker loss. The Warsaw seems to be a nother great defense which is overlooked due to a potent offense. I will not to the same.
Prediction: Warsaw by 9
Amsterdam Arctic Blast at Oklahoma (U.S.A.) Outlaws
Well, I wish there were more to analyze on this one. But I really kind find a ton. o with that said...
Prediction: Amsterdam by 22.
London Brawling Tommies at Dublin Drunken Monkeys
This kind of goes the same as the one right above it. I am ready to stop typing, and this is a good time to end it. London just can't consistently compete with where the DMonks are right now. It should be a solid win for Dublin.
Prediction: Dublin by 28+.
