Today is the day we've waited for all season long. PLAYOFFS! Two great games on the table here. Let's get to it.
(9-5) Drunken Potato Farmers vs (9-5) Jersey Goons
THE JOURNEY THUS FAR
Both teams took similar roads to get here. Winning their respective divisions late in the season, but looking good doing so. Jersey held off D.C. to take the Alpha crown while Drunken defeated Compton in head to heads (sorry for putting that evil on you Kayoh) and claimed the Gamma title. There are more similarities when you look at their performance. The two have had their ups and downs this season, winning big games and losing gimme games. The previous match up between the two this season saw Jersey winning 47-35.
TALE OF THE TAPE
Both teams have fairly balanced offenses. Drunken is truly a balanced attack, while Jersey leans on the run but will still throw when needed. On paper this game looks great. On offense Drunken has the edge courtesy of their passing game. The superstars at the receiving position are key here. On the defensive side of things, both have highly ranked defenses. Jersey ranked 2nd and Drunken ranked 3rd in the league. Jersey likes to get after you and force turnovers, while Drunken has a bend but don't break approach.
PREDICTION
Drunken is the slightly more sound team, but Jersey has a knack for making plays when it matters. If Jersey can force a couple turnovers and sack the QB a bit, they have a great shot at winning this game. However if Drunken can get into a rhythm and Calvin Johnson makes some plays happen, the Potato Farmers will be advancing. I think this will be a tight one, coming down to a field goal in the closing minutes to win. Chilly Willy wins it for Drunken, 38-35.
(14-0) Minnesota Stunners vs (11-3) MMArmy Can Crushers
THE JOURNEY THUS FAR
Minnesota comes into the playoffs with an unblemished season. In fact their only loss of the whole year was to the #1 team in the game, the Hawaii Bulls. MMA was 19-2 at one point this year, riding a 16 game winning streak when things went bad. The Can Crushers had several bad games at the end of the sesaon, including a second loss to Minnesota. The Stunners take the #1 spot in the tier. MMA is a distant 2nd, over 30 spots behind in global rank. Minnesota has been that mean older brother all season and MMA will hope to save face with a good showing tonight.
TALE OF THE TAPE
Everyone knows what Minnesota does, and they do it well. Blockers get out quickly to seal off lanes, and rarely give any ground. Pancakes and broken tackles are what you can expect to see from the Stunners offense. On defense it's the same mentality. They will not let you have any semblance of a rushing attack. If there is a chink in the armor of the monster that is Minnesota, it's their pass defense. Their pass defense is ranked last in the league. MMA on the other hand has a very balanced approach on both sides of the ball. Ranked 4th in the pass and rush attack, 4th in rush defense and 2nd in pass defense. MMA may try to keep the Stunners honest with the ground game, but clearly their best chance here is through the air.
PREDICTION
The scales are tilted heavily in Minnesota's favor. If MMA wants to pull an upset out here, they will need to slow the Stunners' rushing attack as best they can, while putting up plenty of points themselves. The Stunners don't fumble, so there wont be any help from turnovers. As much as I'd like to write the underdog wins, I just don't see it happening. MMA makes a game of it, but Minnesota will wear them down in the end. Minnesota 66-49

You idiot, that will never work. I kindly explain to him that the new meta is in the pass offense and pass defense. Look at the success of some of these season 2 teams. They are dominating with the pass. He told me all the more reason to build an all run offense to counter and the most physical defense on earth.
