We got a good set of matchups this week
1. Dead at Season's End vs 11. Glasgow Rangers
- Romo's cares are fairly low, and Glasgow's actively coordinated by some pretty good Bortballers. I think Glasgow matches up with Romo's offense pretty well, so I'm picking the upset here and going with Glasgow. It's been awhile since the Rangers played any top flight opposition, but they're gonna get it done here and help Hawaii close the gap on #1 while probably moving themselves into the top 10.
2. Portland Ronin vs 15. Louisiana Screaming Pelicans
- Based on what Air Raid did to Portland, I'm going to venture a guess here that this game is decided on the LSP defense vs the Portland offense. They handled Erkner pretty well, but Portland's demonstrably better than Erkner. That said, sticking with my trend of taking the Season 2 teams here. Louisiana wins, and further upsets the Season 1 team world order. Probably closer than the Air Raid vs Portland game due to matchups, but the LSP pass attack isn't going to get slowed down by Portland.
3. Hawaii Bulls vs 8. Rusty's Ruins
- Hawaii wins. Rusty has been up and down this season. Hawaii's just been up for everyone. Now that I think about it, they should probably consult their doctor about that.
4. New Jersey Generals vs 16. Legacy
- Legacy's one of the top 8-15 type teams that's suffered some displacement by the surge of Season 2 squads angling for the top 10. New Jersey's been able to fight tough to maintain their top 5 positioning. NJ should win, and I'm picking them, but that upset loss to Dookie awhile back does give some pause. Can't afford to lose to Legacy with several of the Season 2 teams likely on the ladder slate towards the end of the season.
Game of the Week:
5. Brisbane Bogans vs 25. Cobra Kai
- Aw crap, some pretty good matchups, and then the Bogans dip down to the very bottom of the target list.... AND TOTALLY REDEEM THEMSELVES! KAI! This is one of the cooler possible matchups due to it being Screen Abuse 1A vs Screen Abuse 1B
Seriously, if you want an example of how the screen game can be used to make your team better, this is your one-stop shop. A single day clinic. YAC attack! I've no idea who wins this one, but I flipped a coin and it told me the Kai, so I'll take them.
6. The Salty Runback vs 13. Minnesota Stunners
- This matchup would probably be my favorite of the week if it weren't for the Screenmasters facing off. TSR has reliably defended the running game well, and that's pretty much what Minnesota does. An interesting point of reference here is how Minnesota's defense tends to give some ground to passing attacks. Historically, the teams throwing up 40+ points on Minnesota are Compton, D.C., etc. Salty can throw the ball pretty well. And they're likely to play the best defense that Minnesota's seen since the Hawaii game. I'm actually going to pick Salty here, but only because Minnesota's builds aren't finished yet. Close game though.
7. Tampa Piranhas vs 10. Air Raid
- Tampa's been on a bit of a skid. Air Raid has not been on a skid. I suspect we'll have little trouble scoring points, and Tampa probably won't be able to keep up with the pain inflicted by Adder's defense. I'm picking my guys to win.
8. Harrisonburg Bulldogs vs 21. Seneca Hands of Fate
- Tdiddy complained to me awhile back about getting tough ladder matches while Air Raid had been getting some easier games. Now he gets to relax for a week. Seneca's a decent team, but Harrisonburg has an elite team. The Bulldogs should win.
