1. Queen City vs 2. Portland
- With Queen City's couple of losses early this season, feels like Portland's got a shot to make their brief appearance atop the ladder. I'll take Queen City though. Romo doesn't like giving up his throne.

3. Tampa vs 6. Hawaii
- Tampa's a really good team, and has been here for awhile, but they're not going to beat Hawaii. Probably not anyone playing as well as Hawaii right now, and Storm Taurus is the best HB in the game at the moment.

4. New Jersey vs 10. Harrisonburg
- Jersey's another team that's been at the top for awhile. Harrisonburg is one of the season 2 teams that is certainly going to be a top 10 mainstay. Big Game for Harrisonburg to take another big leap. Should probably be a pretty close one, but Harrisonburg has more weapons and more ways to attack a defense.

5. Brisbane vs 13. Stark
- Brisbane does the screen and rush thing better than anyone, but they've had a rough go of it this season. Their best win was a pretty good pantsing of what was likely an unmotivated BHall defense. Stark's also had a rough start to the season. It was a close matchup last season, and will come down to playcalling. I'm taking Brisbane in this one though. Starks had a rough time getting consistent offense this season so far.

7. Rusty vs 12. Detroit
- Rusty should win this one. It was close last season, but Detroit just got blasted by Air Raid. Rusty's built to do similar bad things to a defense.

8. Salty vs 29. Rancho
- Salty should win. Moving on.

9. Erkner vs 19. Glasgow
- Glasgow's another one of the top tier Season 2 teams that's eventually going to make their way into the top 10. Peeti's prone to radical scheme changes, but Glasgow generally plays good defense against most any type of scheme. I expect Glasgow to win.

Outside the top 10 bonus pick!

18. Dookie vs 21. Louisiana
- The Pelicans haven't been beaten yet this season, and Corndog's busy with Mighty Brawlers launch. Dookie's struggled with passing attacks in the past. Lousiana can throw the ball with the best of them. I'm taking the Pelicans.

Harrisonburg is a team that makes me a little nervous. I've seen how good they are and I really have to get my tactics right in this one. I'm trying to get the Generals to the top this season. Gotta win this one if that's going to happen.

So far today, Hawaii smashed Tampa about how I expected. The eventual Hawaii vs Queen City matchup will be a good one.

Of course, Hawaii's going to lose some steam in the ladder at some point. Other than playing and beating Queen City and New Jersey, there's not too many more possibilities for them to really climb this season. They might not be able to finish much higher than 3rd or 4th without a good bit of help.

I kinda figure they'll pass up Brisbane before they have a chance to beat them directly.

Rusty started a little rough but I expect to start turning the corner back to an elite team as the season continues on.

my dumb@$$ put in the wrong tactics/defensive playbook... oh well, we probably would have lost anyway, as yukiko and cobb looked about as bad as they ever have... overthrows like crazy, even when not pressured

the game reminded me of the wacky LSP game last season

It's extremely hard to gain on people in the ladder now especially when you draw a team that is 15 ranks below you.

Also highlights the advantage that a team who gets to play top teams in league play has. If a team gets the #1 and #3 and #7 teams in league play (or one of them twice) (that is a made of example) - sure makes a big difference in ladder I think.

That assumes they win the majority of those tough matchups though. Could just as easily be a disadvantage.

well - it is definitely an advantage if you're winning

if you're losing some...that isn't too bad either -- if it is #10 vs #1 and the #10 is trying to climb the ranks -- that game is going to be:

low risk / high reward for #10
high risk / low reward for #1

just based on the way the ELO works as we seem to understand it.

But for those teams (Hawaii being the example they are using here) who are hoping to climb to the top of the ladder eventually (including yours and mine) I think we'd all choose to be in a stacked league -- with top teams...rather than a garbage league with mediocre teams. It is more fun -- your ladder advantages are stronger with league games -- etc.

Sure -if you're number 15 and stuck with the #8 and #3 global ranked team in your division...you're probably not happy.

Tdiddy lets me down! New Jersey with a very nice win there. Also, Rusty's takes care of Detroit in another close one. Higher scoring than last season, but still a single possession game.

So far I've only missed my Harrisonburg over NJ pick
