I messed up big time and retired my rookie S* QB after playing in 2 scrimmages thinking that playing in scrimmages wouldn't count against the S* point refund. I now realize that I'm an idiot, has anyone had any experience with whether they'll refund these or not?

I was under the impression it was only league or ladder games

I thought the same but it's showing that I have 0/20 points in my first tier.

I'm pretty sure you can play in "pickup games" and get the S* points back when you retire the player but not scrimmages, league or ladder games. Honestly though the rules surrounding this aspect of the game are so confusing and poorly explained that they absolutely should refund those points to you, if they cared at all about their player base that is.

Considering there is no definitive player guide on how S* points exactly work, the staff would have to be pretty boneheaded to not refund you. However, in my experience, the staff is pretty boneheaded.

Make sure to send in a message to support, they will usually get back to you within 24 hours.

Seems pretty definitive - only pickup games can be played.

There should be a pop-up message when you try to retire a superstar that says, "The superstar points will not be refunded. Are you sure you wish to retire this player?"

Yeah, they got it fixed pretty quickly. Agree with Stixx though, a pop-up message would be nice.

Retire Player

You can retire your player if you no longer want him. THIS PROCESS IS PERMANENT, so make sure you really want to retire him!

When you retire your player, you will get back between 30% and 100% of the flex points spent on the player, depending on how long you have controlled him. A player retired before he has reached rookie level 1 will receive a 100% refund, with the refund reducing by 17.5% per level, down to 30% after reaching level 4. Any player who has not played a single game (other than pickup games) will receive a 100% refund, including superstar points.

I never claimed to have not made a mistake, just said that it would be nice to have a message similar to the "flex points returned" for superstar points. You're suggesting that when you read that, you can clearly tell that a player who participated in a scrimmage won't be treated the same as a player who participated in a pickup game?

In my mind, the two were equivalent.

The phrase "Any player who has not played a single game (other than pickup games)" makes it clear that only pickup games lead to full refunds. Pickup games and scrimmages are different things, and one is expressly mentioned, while the other is not. I'm not saying you're dumb, I'm saying that it is there, you just need to read more carefully.
