I think it would be great to reorder the teams, regarding their record, after the playoff teams are determined. A little example: http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/league/69 (Seasoned, Lithium League)

It is very likly that the two teams with the best record will play against each other in the first round, because they are in the same division. The number 2 team (Gamma champ) will play the much easier number three team (Alpha champ). If the regular season would end today the playoff teams and matchups would look like that:

#1 Portland (11-1)
#2 Vandelay (10-2)
#3 Seattle (7-5)
#4 Men Who Herd Cats (11-1)

#1 Portland vs #4 Men Who Herd Cats
and
#2 Vandelay vs #3 Seattle

If you would reorder the teams after the regular season, the playoff teams and matchup would be like that:

#1 Portland (11-1)
#2 Men Who Herd Cats (11-1)
#3 Vandelay (10-2)
#4 Seattle (7-5)

#1 Portland vs #4 Seattle
and
#2 Men Who Herd Cats vs #3 Vandelay

To be honest why would Portland or Men Who Herd Cats try to win the last two games of the season? If one of the teams is able to lose the last two games, they have a good chance to play the easier #2 or #3 team.

So, reordering the playoff teams after the regular season would guarantee, that every team tries to win every game.

I agree, Sapphire is lopsided right now, a 4-8 and a 3-9 team will make it in the playoffs if they started today, leaving two much better teams at 8-3-1 and 8-4 out of the playoffs.

1 Philadelphia Firefighters 8-4-0
2 Newcastle Butchers 4-8-0
3 Bears Beets Battlestar Galactica 4-8-0
4 Sunday Funday 4-8-0


BETA DIVISION
1 Inner City Kids 11-1-0
2 Tampa Bay Belligerent Drunks 9-2-1
3 Las Vegas Outlaws 8-3-1
4 Olaf's Warm Hugs 8-4-0


GAMMA DIVISION
1 Live Oak Eagles 9-3-0
2 The Fart Wafting Hundredaires 3-9-0
3 PAIN NATION MIDGETS 2-10-0
4 Tecmo Bowl Legends 1-11-0

That's false. If today was the playoffs, Inner City (11-1) would be the 1 seed. Live Oak (9-3) would get 2, Philly (8-4) gets the 3, and Tampa (9-2-1) gets the 4. Remember, only 4 playoff teams. Tampa would get a "bad" matchup, but it wouldn't be a travesty by any stretch.

Are you sure this doesn't already happen? I heard that it does but can't find a past example either way.

IIRC it's true, there is a reshuffle after the regular season.

I am pretty sure there is no reshuffle after the regular season.

Little example. Season 5, Cheetah league. First round:
New Jersey Generals (12-2) vs Hillfield Dinos (8-6)
and
Doinitin Djibouti (15-1) vs Rusty's Ruins (11-3)

If there would have been a reshuffle after the regular season, the matchups would have been:
New Jersey Generals (12-2) vs Rusty's Ruins (11-3)
and
Doinitin Djibouti (15-1) vs Hillfield Dinos (8-6)

#1 seed definitely plays the wild card.

Yes. There have been two occasions where I have attempted not to win because the Beta division leader had five wins all season and being in first place meant a much tougher matchup.

Once you have been guaranteed a division spot, the only reason to go for #1 is if all three division leaders are strong and the wild card is seen as a better matchup for your team.

Yeah, by that time in the season I wasn't in the top ten, so I'd rather take the playoff finals.

Agreed, but the Beta Division is still stacked. The worst team in the division is 8-4, while that is the highest record for one division, and one game worse than the best team in the other.

Yea you still gotta go through the same teams to win the ship whether or not you face a tougher matchup in the semis or final. I know I will never purposefully tank to try to change my teams seed. Losers mentality!

I agree, but in some leagues the playoffs don't make sense, and some leagues have divisions that are stacked, where as some teams in other divisions are terrible

I kind of wish it just took the top 4 regardless of division. I've seen some 6 win teams make the playoffs while 10 win teams don't - only because of the division they are in...which is how the NFL is, I get that, but this isn't exactly the NFL and I'd rather the best 4 make it.
