What is the actual difference here? I always figured that 'lead blocking' was when the blocker is the first person in front of the carrier and that 'run blocking' was everyone else. Not really sure though. Anyone know for sure?

no one other than the developers know exactly when each type of awareness is in play, but it's at least popular to assume that lead blocking is used when your blocker has a "blocking route" such as the FB does on every play, or the G, OT, TE do on many "pull" plays. How long lead block awareness is relevant, and if/when run blocking awareness becomes relevant on such plays, nobody knows.
