I've been thinking about this the past few days and all honesty I haven't researched much to see how many others have tried this.

My thought was I currently have a decent built elusive back who does pretty well for the team. As I was browsing through league stats I noticed that he also leads the league in Broken Tackles. So I thought - If this guy is breaking tackles with absolutely zero points in power rushing, what would happen if I actually pumped it up near it's current cap (50s, IIRC). Maybe go with the Power Through SA to compliment it a bit.

I know I'm not the first person with this idea, so I'm curious who out there has built a similar HB and how successful they have the potential to be.

The top HBs in the Hall of Fame are in that realm of being 'elusive power backs'. There are certaintly degrees of elusive and power, though.

To be blunt, you're stupid if you go 100% pure one way or the other.

That's a given, I was just curious on something that is more balanced between the two. As in putting your end build elusive/power rushing both fairly even (70's or so).

Im no offensive guru, but making a player with caps for both in the 70s sounds like a pretty good idea to me. Power Through on a back with a 50 power running cap on the other hand, not so much.

I went 81/54 on my early bloomer.

Next time I have a third tier superstar available I plan on rolling an early bloomer + unpredictable + Superstar HB with a huge investment in Strength and Agility to get the power/elusive/balance caps way up there.

If Early Bloomer kills my caps too much, I'd take Meathead to save on the extra salary.

Why not just go with Rusher instead of unpredictable? Especially if caps are your biggest worry. Since the salary increase doesn't multiply with the S* salary increase it seems worth it to me.

Thing he means salary caps

It's still 12%, but I'd say it's worth it.

Actually, not THAT stupid. It makes sense to go 100% elusive. With even a modest amount of points invested in power running/balance, you are risking potential strip fumbles and therefore would need high enough carrying grip. But what's high enough? Power guys with 80 carry grip still fumble a bunch, so you might also need SAs like 'mr reliable' or 'brace for impact.' I mean, that's quite a commitment just to have him dragging defenders something like half a yard before getting brought down and 15 fumbles a season.

Mr. Reliable helps "balance" which also helps break more tackles... its the bread to PT's butter.

I think this is more along the lines of an elusive powerback...

You don't have to get power running to use mr. Reliable. Just like stiff arm isn't based on power running.

In theory Spin seems like a great Combo-Back skill, boosting Power and Elusive running rolls, but that carrying grip hit might sting

I totally 100% agree with that.

One team asked me to put some points into power running on my elusve back. We had a long discussion and my point is, going "a bit" power running is not working regarding fumbles. An elusive back has to go down by the first tackle, he shouldnt be able to drag people or make defenders bounch of him. There have to as few chances to touch him as possible.

I think you can have a power back with speed, who has 80+ carrying grip, mr. reliable and brace for impact. But you cant go with an elusvie back with a bit power running, that will lead to a lot of fumbles.
